Today we lost our sweet boy Talus - he passed away at just gone 3pm this afternoon.  My heart is broken :(

He was diagnosed with probable lymphoma in March.  He lost weight before Chrstmas and we spent sometime going back and forth to the vet with no obvous cause being found.  Eventually they x-rayed and lymphoma was given as the most likely cause of the weight loss - he was nearly 11 years old and weighed less than 3 kg. :(

He was a sweet little munchkin; we always joked about him having enormous ears and that one day he would grow into them but he never did and now he never will :(

Yesterday evening he was fairly bright although he seemed a bit more wobbly than he has been; alarm bells rang a bit when he didn't show any interest in the food I put down.  He also didn't seem to be able to settle anywhere and didn't seem to know what he wanted.  This morning OH came up before he went to work to say that Talus had had an "accident" overnight - he was a bit hit and miss with the litter tray over the last week or so - and that he was very lethargic and just very unhappy.

I gave him a quick bath first thing and then made the decision to ring the vet to arrange a house-visit - it was time.  Talus had made it obvious that he had had enough and didn't want to fight anymore - you could see it in his face.  I took the day off work and he spent it on my lap wrapped in a towel, asleep but as the morning passed he became more and more unresponsive and unaware of his surroundings, but I hope he knew we were there.  At one point he had an "accident" on my lap but I don't think he knew or was aware of it when we cleaned him up.  Occasionally he would let out a very low howl and sort of arch back/stretch out his legs and sort of "bicycle" them - I don't know whether he was dreaming, wherever he was, or having small seizures as his system shut down.  But I hope he was comforted to know that he was in my arms and loved.

By the time the vet arrived to put him to sleep he'd sliped away almost totally; his pulse was very weak and his breathing had become very shallow - we thought he'd gone a couple of times but then he'd kind of gasp in a breath and twitch - he was still holding on.  At least though he wasn't scared - he wasn't aware that the vet was there and didn't know what was happening, even when unfortunately they couldn't raise a vein in one front leg because his system had shut downso much.  When the injection went in he passed almost immediately.

Goodbye sweet boy; I hope that Bladey-cat is waiting at the Bridge for you. xxxxx

rip talus. Such a sad thing to lose our little babies. You did all you could and talus went as far as he could, that should always be remembered.

Rest well talus, good luck you, may god be with you.

I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet Talus. I'm sure he felt all the love you gave him during his last hours and I know you'll be seeing him again at the Rainbow Bridge.

What a beautiful boy.  I am so sorry--it's never easy even when you know it's time.  I'm sure he knew you were there, and that you loved him.

I was just reading your first thread, shedding tears with you & wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful little boy. He was blessed to have such a good mom, & that he could spend his last hours with you, being cared for & loved. I know you feel blessed to have had him in your life. I will say a prayer for you, & sending you vibes of comfort.

I'm so glad you came to this site to seek comfort and understanding for the loss of your precious Talus, it releases a bit of the terrific pain that is bottled up in your heart with the beautiful tribute to your baby. All of us understand what you are going through, most of us have experienced the loss ourselves and know how dark and lonely those first weeks are. My heart goes out to you, I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  RIP sweet Talus, the heavens gained a beautiful angel!

Thank you all for your kind words.  It was very strange to come ino the lounge on Weds morning and for there to be no Talus waiting; no food bowls and no litter tray (well that's a little bit of a bonus).  I am a pet portrait artist (in my spare time LOL) and so my next project will be a graphite or pastel drawing of  him, once I finish the commission I am currently working on.

I do miss his liltte cheeky face and giant ears!  :(
