What do you wish you could train your cat to do?

I wish I could train one of my cats to clean up after himself by picking up his own toys. I'm tired after work and don't feel like doing it. I try to keep them all contained in the area under his cat tree, but they are usually scattered from one end of the house to the other when I get home. I have to have lots of toys available for him because he is super hyper, even at two years old, and will find other (destructive) ways to amuse himself otherwise. It usually involves knocking items from dressers, shelves, etc., to the floor.

It is kind of cute to watch him play though. He likes to run through all of the toys and scatter them. Sometimes he will sort through them by picking up and tossing other toys aside until he finds the one he wants to play with. He usually takes one toy and runs all over like crazy with it, and then leaves it in a random spot and comes back for another one to do the same thing. If I am at home, he will keep bringing me one toy after another to play "fetch" with. He is just like a dog in that regard.

The DirectTV guy came over one day, and when he was hooking up a new receiver (or whatever you call the box), he kept pulling out toys behind the TV that had gotten tossed up there. The TV is up pretty high.

I would like to teach both of my cats to sweep the floor and wipe their feet off on the track mat before leaving the litter box area as well. They vigorously cover their poop and kick a lot of the litter out of the box while doing so. They then step over the track mats I have in front of their litter boxes and shake their feet off on the floor.

Walk the dog. What a sight that would be!

Lilith: "Get going, Sister. We don't have all day, you know."

Sophie: "She's not as smart as Mom thinks she is, is she?"

Lilith: "Not even close. What IS she doing? So uncivilized."

Sophie: "really."

Lilith" Are you done YET? I need to go nap in my tree."

Sophie: "SO inconsiderate". How DID we get roped into this again?"

Lilith: "I don't know but I do not like this"

Kat0121, that was hilarious!

I would like to train the kids into awakening around 6:00 in the morning. This business of yelling at us at 4:30 every morning is wearing very thin. I can understand it throughout the week because Rick is usually up around 4:45 or so. But for crying out loud, let us sleep in on the weekend. Just until 6 and I'd be a very happy camper.

It would be great if Mogli learned to pick up all the scraps of cardboard he produces by chewing on boxes and corrugated cardboard scratchers. I'd settle for less litter strewn around the upstairs, though.

Less litter strewn around would be great. what would be even better would be if I could get Lilith and Sophie to sit still for more than 2 seconds so I can groom them. Lilith bites the brush or comb or whatever then takes off and Sophie paces back and forth so I'm always afraid that I'll pull her hair or something. she also likes to bite or swat at the brush. Treats don't help. They eat them and then misbehave again.Fortunately for me,  Henry has a very short coat. The other 2 have long coats and short attention spans.

Leroy needs to learn how to cover his stinky poop in the litter box
I do feed raw food but Aby have such sensitive tummies that poop tends to smell, not as horrible as dry food though. Staying off the counters, top of the fridge, the stove, and top of the kitchen cabinets would be nice, too. Oh, and stay out of the kitchen sink when there are dirty dishes in it. And.....
Let's just say Leroy needs to be trained to do a lot of things so he's more well behaved and less of a PITA

Emma... I think the only thing she needs to be trained is to not yank my hair (right at the scalp
) while I'm sleeping.

this is on the alternate universe side of the question...

i would like to train my kitties to call me "mumma" out loud, and call my hubby "puppa".

i think that would be the sweetest thing.....!!

on a really this-side-of-the-universe-of-"if" theme:  i would like to train the kitties to use the potty and flush only once.  i know my little urchins, and if they were trained to flush the potty, they would do it over and over - just to watch the water flow around and around and around and ar-...

All those toys around the house sounds so cute! (but it's not in reality
)

I think the only thing right now I would like Ming to be able to do is bring me his treats bag when he wants a treat. Watching him claw at it across the room and having to get up and get it is a real pain...

On second thought, maybe I'm just extremely lazy and should train MYSELF to be less lazy. Haha!!!

I wish I could train Shadow to eat the food I put in front of him. I swear that as much food goes in the bin as into his stomach!

I also would like to train mine to sleep in past 5:00am.  I try to get a bit more sleep after breakfast but it's no use...it's time for after breakfast snuggles on the bed, then it's the racetrack across your bed and around the room, then its the cold wet nose on your face, and finally opening your eyes around 7:30am to a cat butt on your pillow

I wish I could teach them to stay off my counters and not jump on my chairs to get to the window (They have two cat trees by the window.. why use my chairs?!)

Oh my where should I start.....

1/ To use the toilet

2/ Clean up after themselves, food/litter

3/ Stop getting on the counters, table, etc.

4/ Learn that snooze means extra sleep, not extra time for petting

5/ Get their own food

6/ Sleep past 6 am on weekends

7/ Vacuum the floor since most of the hair is theirs

Scoop his own litter box & sweep up after!

I scoop after each use, so am scooping & sweeping at least 2xs/day. I stopped using a matt or little rug outside the box, because it's just easier to sweep it all up at once. Plus, sometimes he leaves pee pee drops on the floor outside the box where he has moved around covering it up in the box. It drips off his fluffy butt! I wish I could trim down the fur back there, but he won't even let me get near there with the furminator.

I just keep a tub of clorox wipes near by & wipe up the floor when that happens.

Oh, & not to wake me up before the alarm would be nice too.

Oh I love this thread!

These comments are great :)

I wish I could train Nora to vacuum! She tracks litter like no other, but she absolutely hates the vacuum. She stalks the vacuum whenever I'm using it. If it comes close enough, she'll take a big swat at it :lol3:

Other than that, no complaints, as she's a pretty awesome, well-mannered cat!
