Hi guys! I have a 5 month old male (who we suspect was the runt of the litter, and also younger than he should have been when we got him) who constantly has black eye and nose discharge (solid). He also can't meow properly (sounds like a person that's trying to talk but lost their voice!) and when he purrs there's a whistling sound. Was planning on taking him to the vet but thought I'd ask if this is normal first? I mean, I've never seen it before on another cat; but although I've lived with a few, I've never owned one until this year! Any advice much appreciated!

Could be an upper respiratory infection or another type of virus.  Definitely something that a vet should check out.

Hi! Just thought I'd let anyone who may be reading this thread know that little Titan was taken to the vet, and all was well! The whistling purr and the lack of meow the vet thought was due to the fact that he's growing very quickly and his respiratory system was just catching up. As for the eye and nasal discharge, it was normal, he just wasn't cleaning himself well (slow learner!). So basically all I have is a fast-growing but slow-learning cat!
