I love these. Would it be ok to give the cats some? If so how much and how often? They are between 9-10 lbs. One is a senior and the other 11/2. The

mussels are the blue from P.E.I and  sardines the typical canned. I prefer the olive oil ones but could live with water  packed. If I did give them some would you skip the VetTrust  skin and coat oil- salmon oil 500mg/ omega 3  105mg/ EPA 37.5/ DHA 45mg /omega 6 =15mg.

I meant canned sardines not DHA sardines.

I think they are ok as a treat.. not every day kind of thing as they can be too rich for some cats. I definitely would still give supplements since you shouldn't really feed mussels and sardines regularly. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. I don't feed either but as far as I know they shouldn't be fed as a regular every day diet thing.

I have fed clams before to my cat.  But it was only 3-4 small clams as a treat type thing because she was begging for some.

In this case though, I don't think it's okay to feed it to them as a meal, just a little bit as a treat or maybe a topper.  Remember...just because you like to eat something doesn't mean your cat needs to eat it.

You'll also find that a lot of cat owners skip out on seafood in cat's meals because of amounts of toxins like mercury.

Thanks for reply. I was thinking as a treat type thing that  might be helpful. I'm trying to eat more fish and sardines are touted as being good for humans as well as mussels- e.g the omega 3 plus calcium in sardines. Looking to find out how much for a cat- ? 1 sardine or 1/2 sardine? One mussel or two? Maybe once or twice a week in their regular food if I happen to be eating them. Noted that some cat and dog foods are adding green lipped mussels to their mixes. I just figure blue mussels from P.E.I must have some benefit too.

Feline- Understand concern about mercury- believe sardines are suppose to contain the least if any. So sad that that is a worry for everyone. I never buy the fish cat food for them so they don"t get any fish. Was thinking as a treat type if I happened to be eating them- not as a meal for them. I don't even eat them every week. Kind of looking for an idea of how much is a treat- cannot for the life of me figure out that less then 10% thing. I'm better with ? 2 cooked mussels ? I/2 sardine. Thanks for response.

Sardines do contain the least amount of mercury along with salmon and certain types of tuna.  I would say like a combination of 1 mussel and 1 sardine or 2 mussels and 1/2 sardine.  It really depends on the size of the sardines.  It's really up to you and what amount you think is good as a topper on your cats food or a treat.

Thanks for reply- about what I was thinking. except no way are they getting both at one time. I was thinking one sardine between two of them.Just needed to check other opinions. The mussels I guess one each? I myself go into a feeding frenzy about twice a year for lobster and mussels so the mussels wouldn't be that often. No way are they getting  any lobster- that is all for me.

If you have a food scale (ounces) it should be easier to figure out the amount you want to give (with or without their usual meal).
