My mother's cat had kittens a couple weeks ago and she had one kitten who's color I have never seen before, and I thought I'd seen them all. This one is new to me. I will try to get better pictures soon, but here is one my husband took. When she was born her coat was mostly white. As she's gotten old, the color has started to come out more. This picture doesn't show it, but she has a couple of small tabby spots, like one on her front elbow area and her forehead. At first I thought she might be a dilute torbie, but she looks different than that to me. The tabby spots aren't diluted at all. Anyone have a clue to what color this is? (Oh, and momma cat is grey tabby and white, and daddy probably a black and white or a cream)

At first glance I would have also said a dilute tort or torb, but it might be still coming in, so it's a wait and see what happens I'm thinking.

A couple weeks and it will be much clearer.

If poss post another pic or two.

I will try to get some more pictures of her soon. This is a first for me :) I've seen a lot of kittens(used to work at an animal shelter) but I've never seen one quite like her. I plan on taking her myself when she's weaned, since my mom wants to keep the little long haired cream she had. I can't wait to see how she turns out.

She's very cute! :)

She's a Blue Tortie Tabby with White. I'm curious how much darker it's going to get, ^^

She is home with us now :) Her siblings are going to new homes tomorrow. She is so sweet. She had a bit of eye gunk but it should clear up easily. Now I just need to think of a name for her!

She looks like a tabby calico, she is not a true tortie as she has white, torties have just black and brown/tan.

Actually torties can have small amounts of white. She just has white toes and back legs.
Here's a better shot of her back now. She has gotten a bit darker.

But with white toes or white legs, any white, even a pink toe pad, not technically a tortie anymore.

Torties and torbies can have white. They are just called tortie/torbie with white. This is what Cat Fanciers says about it:

"The difference between a calico and a tortoiseshell is this:

With a calico, there is a significant amount of white, and the two colors are broken up into distinct patches. This has to do with the interaction of white spotting.

With a tortoiseshell, the three colors are blended and don't form distinct patches. A tortoiseshell may have significant portions of white as well, but the remaining colors are blended (this particular pattern is called a tortoiseshell and white).

A torbie, or patched tabby, is a tortoiseshell where the tabby pattern is very distinct all over the cat. A calico or tortoiseshell may have distinct tabby pattern on the red or cream patches (has to do with another gene we won't get into at this juncture), but no patterning on the other color. This isn't a torbie. A torbie is clearly patterned all over the cat -- though never on the white."

My Vet told me a true tortie never has white. I wonder why? Oh, well. Good to know.

Most vets don't know colors standards - they have my shaded silvers Persians listed as white and my goldens as red.  They are most times incorrect on dog colors too - they had my sable Collie down as a tri color.

You have a lovely kitten.

That's kind of bad haha. If he doesn't know, he shouldn't try to explain it to you and teach you wrongly. Tortie basically means that the cat (mostly female) has both the black and red gene. They mix. It has nothing to do with white or anything else. It just means that. Red and Black on one cat. It's so simple ^^

Gotta agree on this! My vet put down the color of my labrador as white and he is totally beige. Maybe it was the lighting.
