Not sure if this belongs in health or nutrition
I just started giving one kitty Azodyl and was wondering if it's Ok for her to eat food from the community dish containing a different probiotic.

Here are ingredients for both:

Azodyl:

Kibow Biotics[emoji]174[/emoji] [E. thermophilus (KB 19), L. acidophilus (KB 27), B. longum (KB 31), Psyllium husk].

Ask Ariel Power Probiotic:

TzymeTM Probiotic Blend 442 mg *

Lactobacillus plantarum 3 billion c.f.u. *

Lactobacillus sporogenes 380 million c.f.u. *

Lactobacillus salivarius 300 million c.f.u. *

Bifidobacterium longum 200 million c.f.u. *

Lactobacillus casei 225 million c.f.u. *

Lactobacillus acidophilus 1 billion c.f.u. *

Jerusalem Artichoke tuber 20 mg *

Lactoferrin (from milk) 10 mg *

Gosh, interesting question.  I would think it would be ok, however, when I went to the website for the Power Probiotic, they said it could be used as an alternative to Azodyl.  Has Rory been on Power Probiotics for awhile now?  If so, then I guess it's not working as intended
.  I actually went on their website to try to find out the dosing instructions but couldn't find them.  Does it say to give one capsule per animal per day?  How do you give it in the community bowl?  How many community bowls do you have?  Do you put 6 capsules out altogether...how do you know who gets how much?

Hmm, well, I'm not so sure about using the Power Probiotic as an alternative to Azodyl.  They make some pretty grand claims on their site, that's for sure.  The PP is the only probiotic that's helped my IBD kitty, however, so I've been giving it to everyone for an overall immune boost.  They've been on it for a few months.

There's usually two community wet food dishes and two cats will gravitate to one and two to the other (interestingly, each physically similar pair has the same food preferences).  And each cat generally eats almost exactly one half of the food they prefer, so that makes it easy for me to add supplements to their food.  Isn't it nice of them to make things so convenient for me
It *almost* makes up for all the mischief they get into.  Almost.

They're small cats, btw, so they each get 1/2 capsule.  Rory has a pretty iron-clad stomach, so she seems to be doing alright with both probiotics.  So far, anyway.

Don't you have six cats?  I'm just reading all the names in your signature
Two wet food bowls and two cats eating from each only accounts for four cats
.

So are your giving Rory the Azodyl in pill form via mouth, not crushing and mixing with food?  So you're sure she's getting THAT one, since it's the most critical at this juncture?

Sorry for the confusion!  Six, yes, but only four, the littermates, eat from the same dishes.  My older kitties get their own food.

I wish I could give Rory her Azodyl without opening the capsule, but she's impossible to pill.  According to the "CRF bible"- the name of the site escapes me at the moment- you can add Azodyl to a small amount of fatty food an hour before a meal.  I use cream cheese (one of the recommendations) and get lots of happy cuddles afterwards
