a true cat lover here.  i expect i am in good company!

i love animals.  i'm the ellie mae of my family.  i just don't have a cement pond.  or millions in the bank.

i draw the line at insects - although i love butterflies, moth, fuzzy wuzzies and lacywings.  leaf hoppers are not too bad.  :)

i hope to find some good information on this site.  i have a few kitties who use the carpet as their own personal pissoir.  (yuk)  i have one kitty who is mean to other kitties, except to the oldest kitty-cat.  (they cuddle most of the day.)

i also hope to see some wonderful kitty pics.  of all the creatures on this planet, cats are by far the loveliest.  they are living works of art.  <3

Welcome to TCS.  You're right - you will find a lot of good information on this site.  In the few short weeks since I joined, I've learned an enormous amount and people are very generous in sharing their knowledge with you.  You should be able to get a lot of good hints for dealing with the litter box issues.

How many cats do you have?  And speaking of photos, do you have any of yours?

hi, margd.

i have a bunch of kitties!  let's see: aidan (m), d'artagnan (m), kc (f), scarlett (f), buddy (m), drako (m), choko (f), babs (f), frik (also known as princess, f), frak (f), fiona (f) and brian (m).  that's 12 kitties we lay claim to.  there are two cats we have named, but they are feral - much too fearful to allow us to even touch them: herro kitty and nobby (for not-brian - - he and brian are marked almost exactly alike).

this is aidan.  he is a peach-colored color-point cat with medium length hair.

d'artagnan.  a smoke-point kitty.  he does not have siamese body characteristics.  he is the only cat i have ever seen who has actual butt cheeks....

fiona and her 5 babies.  the babies are babs, drako, choko, frik and frak.

we have 4 black cats, 2 tuxies, 5 colorpoints, and 1 tabby.  buddy is the tabby.  he is also our newest kitty.  he was abandoned at an apartment building.  the staff in the leasing office were afraid (after they told the former tenant they would turn him in for animal neglect) that he would come back and kill the cat.  so we took buddy in.  he is a big, sweet guy - not a contentious bone in his body.  a laid-back dude.  we're so happy we got that call!

What beautiful kitties you have!  And 12 of them!   That's real devotion.  I also am very fond of black cats having had at least one for as long as I've owned cats.

It's wonderful you took Buddy in - it's so sad when people just move and abandon their pets.   He sounds like a real sweetheart.

With 12 cats, you should get a lot out of this site.  There is always something, isn't there and you can get a lot of advice here.   Are yours neutered, btw?  That will make life easier for you and your cats.

Looking forward to seeing more posts and photos.

absolutely each of them is spayed/neutered.  fiona was a stray, and she got pregnant before we could get her to the vet!!  for the last few days of her pregnancy, i was trying to keep her INside for the birth.  as far as i could tell, it was her first litter.  she was less than a year old.  i didn't want her to be all by herself and panicked.  it looked like i was going to get my way - she stayed on the freezer most of the time.

then she streaked out the door.

she had her babies under the house, i am certain.  when they were three weeks old, she decided to move everybody indoors.  it took HOURS.  it really did!  she brought each one in her mouth to the office door and then hid them in the alcove you see in the last pic.  then she went for the next one.  i had no idea how many she had until she just laid down with them.  5 babies.

brian was a stray too.  i had him neutered as soon as i could get him to tolerate my touch.  these days, he is a big old lap-cat - especially when i am knitting or crocheting.  Very Hard To Budge.

although i simply adore babies, i don't want to be in the "mama and baby" business ever again.  at one point in my life, i had two pregnant cats and two pregnant dogs.  as soon as everybody was born and mama could be at the vets - - - all the mama's got spayed!!  while we were waiting, the adult males got snipped.  of the babies i kept (and i eventually stopped finding more homes - i had a bad dream, and that was it - "whoever is here is OURS," i said), each one got taken to the vet.

lesson learned.  ;)  fiona slipped through the cracks - lol.  sneaky little stinker...

Aw, that's so sweet about Fiona bringing her babies in!  She's a good Mama, making sure her kittens have a safe place.

I've never had more than 4 cats at a time and really am in awe of people who manage more than that.  I know what you mean about worrying about the babies.  Years ago my dog had puppies and finding good homes for them was extremely traumatic.  I would have kept them all if I could.

Sympathy for the knitting/crocheting problem!  I know well the difficulties in trying to crochet with a lap full of cat.  Wouldn't change it for the world, though.
