Good morning!
 And Happy Friday!

Let's talk about glasses. I know we did a little bit a few weeks ago when I asked for advice on regular glasses. Well, I had my eye appt last week (finally) and they were also able to fix my regular glasses. (When I took my broken glasses down before, that person said they couldn't be repaired and that I would need new ones. This time, the tech immediately repaired them for me.) That was good news because I was able to buy a new pair of prescription sunglasses. My eyes really hadn't changed all that much overall, but it was enough of a change that I felt better with a new pair of glasses. My new pair came in yesterday and I'm going down tonight to pick them up. I ended up with a pair of larger Michael Kor sunglasses in mauve/purple. They actually look much like the sunglasses I have now. I think I'll wait until fall comes and then go ahead and buy a pair of regular glasses then. Rick also got a new pair of regular glasses and a pair of prescription safety glasses for work; he has to wear safety glasses at work and while the company does pay for a portion of the glasses, we have to pay for the rest. I'm glad he has vision and dental insurance because it really helps. We go to the eye doctor every year, although we don't buy new glasses every time.

I am supposed to wear my glasses 24/7. The only time I actually wear them, though, is when I'm driving at night. Other than that, they're in my car. I don't wear them at all. They're bi-focals and, honestly, they're more of a pain to wear than to go without them. I'm constantly moving my head up and down and back and forth and that lasts about five minutes, before I take them off and throw them somewhere. So I've started to keep them in the car so that if I'm driving at night, they're handy. I wear my sunglasses often though. Whenever I'm outside, I have my sunglasses, even on cloudy days, even during the winter. I don't go outside at all without my sunglasses, so they need to be prescription. I need glasses for driving and will wear my sunglasses for driving all the time.

Anyway, my questions this morning: Do you wear prescription glasses? Do you use prescription sunglasses? Do you actually wear your glasses? What about bi-focals; are you using them yet? Anybody use contacts? How often do you see your eye doctor?

I hadn't gone to the eye doctor in years and then Aaron finally insisted about a year and a half ago that I go. They are keeping an eye on me for glaucoma, so since then I have a few tests done yearly and a full exam once a year.

I have progressive lenses and these are my frames:

My prescription for distance is minimal. Since I didn't feel I was having any issues, the eye doctor elft it up to me whether or not I wanted to get the glasses. I did end up getting them and tend to wear them on cloudy days. I also have astigmatism and can feel my eyes straining when it is cloudy out. I do find myself having a more difficult time when reading extremely small print so have been grabbing them more often when needed.

I don't wear glasses. I last went to the optometrist when I was 20 or 21, I believe, so 5 or 6 years ago. He said my eyesight is good enough to not need glasses, and that with good care, eyesight tends to level out at 21. I only stopped going because I was uninsured after that.

I don't wear glasses but should go get an eye exam anyway. No prescription sunglasses but I do have a pair of Ray Bans that I love. they fold up and fit into a small box that easily fits in my purse

Really the only thing I ever use glasses for is those pesky cat food cans. The print on them is SO SMALL. When I'm in Petco or whatever and I'm trying to read the ingredients, it's such a pain. DH kept reading glasses all over the house. I took one of those pairs and keep it in my purse just for reading the ingredients on cat food cans.

DD does wear glasses and has for a few years now. I'm taking her for an exam when she gets back for the summer in a week or so. I guess I'll schedule both of us.

These are the sunglasses. I LOVE them!! Mine have the blue/violet mirror lenses

I went to the eye doctor 3 years ago because my eyes were bugging me and I got glasses. It turned out they were bugging me because I was pregnant but I had no idea. I need to go for another eye exam soon, I can't wear those glasses anymore.

I'm long and short-sighted.  I go to the optometrist every two years as we get a free consultation that often on Medicare.  I'll usually get new glasses then.  I have progressive lenses, and a pair of sunglasses for driving with long distance.  I save up because glasses cost a bomb!!  Can anyone explain to me how a piece of plastic, without the lenses, can cost $100 - $200 +  !!

I have worn contacts for 45 years now, I just can't imagine wearing glasses.  Now  have one for near reading and one for far vision in the other eye. It's called mono vision, and though it sounds weird it doesn't take long for your eyes to adjust. I see the eye Dr. every year, my grandmother had macular degeneration and I want to monitor for that.

I wear glasses, have since I was 8. I'm extremely nearsighted and have an astigmatism. I wear them all the time except when sleeping or in the shower :lol3:. Because I can only see about 6 inches clearly without them, and the astigmatism makes me see double at close range. I've never tried contacts---can't imagine sticking something on my eyeball! No bifocals yet, and I don't think I need them; I can still read comfortably. I haven't been to the eye doctor in a few years, even though my insurance will cover yearly visits. I just don't get around to it I guess. I need to go soon because I'm starting to get headaches and I think it's my prescription even if I can still see well enough. I don't have a pair of prescription sunglasses, just a clip-on pair.

I have been a little nearsighted since I was a child but not bad enough to absolutely have to wear glasses.  Up until a little over 10 years ago I could pass the exam to renew my driver's license without my glasses.  I still always wore my glasses when I drove even though I didn't have the restriction on my license, I didn't feel safe without them..  I am in bifocals now..  I basically use them for driving and reading, that's pretty much it..

I wear progressive lenses, have for many years.  I didn't need glasses until I hit my 40's and then it was rapidly downhill from there.  One is is near sighted and the other far, so they balanced each other out for many years.

I have prescription sunglasses also.

Never worn contacts, never had the desire to mess with them. I'm far too lazy.

I see the eye doctor yearly, although I didn't buy a new pair of glasses this year as my sight didn't change enough to warrant the cost.  Why are they so damn expensive???  Even with insurance, I wind up paying more than several hundred :(

What I will be doing this year if DD or I need a new prescription, is get that done at the optometrist (we go to the one in Sam's Club- you don't need to be a member) and then use that to order her new glasses from http://www.glassesusa.com/

They have a lot of styles of regular and sunglasses. The optometrist advised DD to wear prescription sunglasses so I ordered her a pair from that site. They run deals all the time. DD's sunglasses got to us super fast and are very good quality. She got a wayfarer style and the are very nice. The prescription was perfect. I tested the waters with them by getting the sunglasses but I would definitely get regular glasses from them too. They have a 1 year warranty and free shipping and returns. I just looked up the order I placed for her sunglasses and they were (with the discount they offer for first time buyers) $67.13 shipped. If you are an ebates member, they are offering 7.5% cash back on glassesusa orders right now. That's nice, too.

I only wear them for computer use, especially at work. I'd get migraines and the glasses help reduce the glare and stress on my eyes. They are prescription since I do have astigma (spelling? is that right?) in my right eye.

I don't have insurance, so I got the prescription for $25, and went online and ordered the glasses for $40 with shipping. For what I use them for, I wasn't going to spend $300+ on glasses. If I wore them all day long, every day, then yea, it'd pay to spend the extra money.

I've worn prescription glasses since I was like 3 years old
I'm extremely nearsighted. I think the last time I saw the eye doctor was about 2 years ago. My eyesight is too bad for contacts
Plus the thought of poking something into my eyes makes me squeamish.

I have worn glasses since I was in the 2nd grade; for distance only.  I only needed them to see the chalkboard at school; but i liked them so I wore them all the time.  That left me with worse vision and by middle school I needed them full time.  I started wearing contacts when i was 16 and I loved it!  I could finally get the cute sunglasses my friends had.  But then in 2007 I got an infection in the cornea of my right eye.  It took a full month for my vision to come back!  Everything was blurry and I had to go see a neurologist to rule out other issues.  After that; I've not been able to find a comfortable pair of contacts.  I gave it almost a year before I tried wearing any again; but I'm told the infection could have left scar tissue.  Also the prescription is different.  If I had the strength my exam called for I was left with a headache and feeling like everything was "coming at me."  If I went down to where things felt ok; I couldn't see as far.  I gave up after a year.  It's easier to sneak in a nap this way.

Since then; and since becoming a stay-at-home Mom, I've just resigned myself to full time glasses and I purchased prescription sunglasses.  It gets expensive; but I don't buy new frames often.  DH is the same way.  But when I got the glasses before these; we both bought regular and prescription sunglasses within a month and I think our checking account sobbed.

I used to go faithfully once a year for exams.  Then while i was pregnant they didn't want to see me and for a year afterward.  (Pregnancy changes eye pressure and I was told it takes that long to stabilize.)  I'm due for an exam; but I want to change doctors.  The last exam I had; I was really put off.  I was shuffled in and out of a room several times and the tech is the one who "adjusted" my prescription.  It was done so fast I didn't know that's what she was doing!  I thought she was taking an initial reading and then the doctor would do it (like it's been done for the past +20 years).  Then i got to the exam room and there was no equipment in there!  I saw the doctor for literally 3 minutes tops and that was only because he thought there was an issue with the glaucoma test.  I cannot take people getting close to my eyes!  They were doing it with a handheld thing; similar to a fat pen.  Finally they used the traditional machine and one of the head techs held my eye open for me.

Yes I wear bi-focals 24/7 except while sleeping :-)  I also have prescription sun glasses but really don't use them much, my bi-focals are dark enough where I can wear them in sunlight.

Pam, I do not have a problem wearing bi-focals while driving at all.   I do have a problem wearing them while on the computer so I have a pair of close-up glasses just while on the computer.

I try to go to the eye Dr. ever couple of years.

My eyes are such a pain in the butt that I'm suppose to have 3 pairs. All set up to separate distances. The only ones I'm using right now are for reading. I used to need

my computer glasses but since I've changed jobs about a year ago, it hasn't been necessary. I can't wear bi-focals as they give me headaches.

...with the cats...
i don't wear glasses now. i could more than likely use to see an eye doctor though, because things are getting hard to read close up when it's small print. i think it's just that i'm getting older.

i do use a hand held magnifying glass and have a pair of magnifying glasses (both bought from the dollar store) that provide the help my eyes need.

I don't wear glasses. I have a collection of cheap plastic sunglasses that I switch around depending on what I'm wearing, that's it.

I wear glasses, and have done since I was a kid. I wore contacts when I was younger, but have given up on them now (my tear film isn't really strong enough for contacts, so my eyes dried out really easily).

My glasses are plain old lenses...nothing fancy. I get eye tests the minimum amount that I can - I think it's every 2 years or so...or when I break my glasses :lol3:

I used to have prescription sunglasses, but gave up on that years ago...too much hassle!
