We would like to adopt a sweet rescue kitty that was abandoned together with her four siblings when they were about two weeks old, All of them were super skinny and sick with various infections. My kitty (a female) had a terrible case of ear mites that they haven't been able to get rid of completely, She has also been sneezing and sometimes there is blood in the sneeze. She was given a five day course of antibiotics yesterday and hopefully this will help but the director of the rescue shelter thinks that she must have had an upper respiratory infection and this is the residual symptom. However, I am concerned that she has been sneezing for several weeks and I read online about possible causes for the blood. One rare but possible reason is a nasal or other tumor and I am really worried about that.

Has anyone ever had experience with their kitty sneezing with blood? I want to adopt her but I worry that she may have something seriously wrong with her and the only way to determine that is with MRI or some other expensive tests that the rescue cannot provide.

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks so much for any help.

Hi and welcome!

Reading all the possible reasons will scare you! Try to stay away from googling this :) It can make me crazy too.

Blood in sneezing cats is caused by irritated membranes. It is quite rare for it to be a tumor/growth, and if she has a uri, it's most likely the irritation from sneezing so long. Nose is basically raw in there, very sensitive area.
