He died free more or less. He didn't die in some clorine filled postage stamp sized "swimming pool" that he was rescued from in Mexico. He may have not swam out to sea like his kind, but he had a 5 mile range! quite a difference from a few yards of swimming space!

This news really bummed me out. He was liberated from the small Mexican aquarium where he was held captive, but never really adjusted to a life in freedom. He was too fixated on human companionship. I don't know - was freeing him the right or the wrong thing to do? This orca touched so many hearts - I hope his story will prevent at least some whales from being caught and held in aquariums to amuse humans,

Keiko was actually freed from his place in Westman Islands some time ago and was free to go wherever he wanted, and had been close to Norway for a while. (Unless they had put him somewhere with 5 mile range, but I have not heard about it
)

I find it sad that he died, it cant have been good for him to live all that time in that swimming pool in that heat in Mexico! He didn´t get to be old compared to what his kind of whales. At least he had some years of better time.

After using the search function, I found the story.

He died.

I hope Keiko finds the peace that was lacking in his life at the Rainbow Bridge.

Here is the link.

Thanks a_loveless_gem! I checked again and there doesn't seem to be a problem. But thanks to your kindness, the rest of TCS can access either. I wish it were good news though

No no no no NO!!!!!! I loved Keiko!! I grew up watching Free Willy...and now..he's gone!! *tears* Atleast it seems he died fast without suffering. If only people would learn to leave nature the heck alone!! Grrrr it makes me mad.
I didnt even know about this untill now...Odd that it didnt saturate the news.

Keiko has been laid to rest.

Keiko's Secret Burial

I have to agree with what they did. It was a quiet peaceful occasion, something that was lacking in his life. There was no media frenzy filming it to be televised all over the world.
