Hi All,

Sorry this is my first post here. I guess I want re-assurance / guidance / what have you. First off, Sara is a 13-year-old cat that I took in to the vet because she was peeing some blood (apparently a UTI) back in December. They gave her a shot for it and all was well with the world. Fast forward to last week and she recently developed one again, and was given an antibiotic to give her at home for a couple of weeks. That was last Thursday. No more bloody pee - until today - and still on antibiotic.

We've not had a cat with a UTI since I was a little kid (ie, a long long time ago) and not sure what is normal healing time. She's on orbifloxacin oral suspension right now. I'm a bit nervous that the bloody pee came back after being gone for a few days.

I plan on calling the vet tomorrow regardless as she recently (Monday) started treatment for hyperthyroidism, need to follow up with them. Which is something else I'm not used to, but the UTI is what worries me at the moment.

Thanks all.

Science Diet (dry) for older cats. She also gets canned food "treats" along with the others. Dry food is the main thing though.

I'm going through exactly the same thing so can sympathize with you.  My Chula developed an UTI and was put on Orbax.  The blood in her urine vanished and then came back, while she was still on the antibiotic.  I took her back to the vet who prescribed Baytril, which he says is a stronger antibiotic, .  So far, it's too soon to know if that will work.

Anyway, I don't have an answer, just letting you know you are not alone in this.  I hope your Sara's UTI clears up quickly.

She definitely prefers wet. She pretty much gets fed whatever she'll eat at the moment, had a scare awhile back when she didn't want to eat for a week (force-feeding cats isn't so fun I learned!), tests were all good, just an upset tummy it seems. This is only the second time she's had the UTI but have no problem feeding her wet food. Keeping her away from the other food now, that's another story. We free-feed the cats as far as the dry stuff.

Margd - definitely gonna ask the vet if they think we need something different/stronger. It may just be a wait thing too, just not sure at this point. She's not really in distress, and she CAN pee, there's just blood in it at the moment.
