Kitten defecates BEFORE eating wet food

I have two kittens, one 10 months, the other approaching a year.  I switched them to holistic dry and my girl got diarrhea.  From that point on, most of the time when I put wet food down she smells it, runs to a litter box and goes before eating.  She even does it when she wants wet food.  She's healthy, plenty of energy, drinks plenty of water, up on shots, wormed.  The only thing I can think of is my hectic, sporadic work schedule sometimes causes me to feed them irregularly.  Does anyone else notice this with their cats?

Yeah I'd say so.  When she had diarrhea still, it was diarrhea, but now that shes back on her regular dry food it's normal.  Perhaps I'm feeding her wet food when I get home or wake up, not knowing that she may have eaten her fill of dry food?

You could just try calling your vet and asking them if it's something to be concerned about. Personally, if the poop looks normal and she's going in the box, I would just hold off and watch her closely. Every cat has a "routine", like my cat always goes right after eating, then she races out and starts grooming. Perhaps the diarrhea just knocked her routine out and she's starting to re-adjust to the way things were.
