I have a new kitten, the vet says he is 4 weeks old, he was found outside our property and I just didn’t have the courage to tell my kids to leave him there. Since then I’ve been trying to take care of him, took him to the vet, he gave him a deworm medicine, showed me how to stimulate the peeing but it’s not working.. He hasn’t peed for 2 days now.
I’m concerned about the peeing, and also about people telling me I should isolate him from my dog cause it can have viruses.. I didn’t know that and the kitty has been close to my dog.. Also people telling me that is dangerous for my daughters.. Saying that kittens can carry viruses that are bad for them. Help please. I need answers from experts.

Hi there and welcome!

Dogs and cats do NOT share the same issues, only ringworm, but not all that common really to worry about at this point.

Dog and cat are fine together.

Also kids are kitten are fine. Again with the exception of ringworm.

Ringworm is not a worm, it's a skin fungal issue that pops up, so if you see any bald patches on kitten then I would say to isolate, otherwise nothing the kitten virus-wise will affect people and dogs.

If the kitten isn't peeing, that means it's not getting enough fluid intake.

How is she eating? At 4 weeks most have no clue how to eat from a dish, they have been nursing from mom until 5-6 weeks, so I suspect she is starving.

Please tell me about what you are feeding her.

She MUST get water or KMR formula asap.

Yes, please go to your nearest Walmart or store that has Kitten milk replacement formula.

It comes in powder, and premade cans - get at least a few cans to get some hydration in him immediately.

Introduce canned with some of the milk stirred in.  Plenty of fresh little bowls or eve better saucers that he can reach his little neck over- of water.

touch his lips with the milk the food, the water ... don't give up!

Kittens and children are MADE for each other.  FEAR NOT.  There's a lot of love and fun waiting for your family.

Thank you so much for taking the wee one in - hopefully if he gets to eating and drinking and in a day or two he'll defecate and pee.
