So i adopted my new cat on Sunday, first day we had her we kept her in the laundry room, which is actually just another living room but with the washer and dryer, we made frequent visits, we would have to find her and try to get her to come out so we could hold her. She was friendly upon us holding her except one time she did hiss at my mom and my son. Since then she has been fine. So the next day we left the door open so if she wanted to come out and explore she could while we all slept. Not sure if she did that, as thiw morning we found her still in the room. My mom and husband are both home during the day so they left the door open, she still didnt come out, my mom said she followed her out about 10 feet and then went back in. The door has been open all day and evening and she just stays in there, not even hiding really. Will linger by the door way and we talk nice to her and she just sits there. I dont re call ever having a cat do this?? I picked her up and brought her to my room and she is exploring around the bed but wont jump off? Is this normal???

Oh she is still just exploring. She doesn't  really know you yet. So just be patient, she will come around on her own time. Grown cats are very different from little kittens, which are still learning, and act fearless!  Sounds like you all are doing the right approach. Wait for he day she rules the house and becomes demanding! She just might be a delicate soul, who needs some time to get her grounds, and feel safe. You didn't say where she came from....A persons home or a shelter where she may have been caged for some time. Either way she needs to sort out where she is, familiar scents, voices, her food, bed, litter etc. She has only been with you a few days, give her time.

Yes it is normal.
Like people, each cat is different in how they deal with new situations.  Let her set the pace with settling in for now; she is with new people in a new place and just needs time from the sound of it.  Spend time near her; let her get used to your voice (speak to her in calm tones, even read a book out loud so she can just hear your voice), consider leaving a shirt you have slept in out in the laundry room so she can get to know your scent.  Do you have any wand toys?  She might not be ready for them; but toys like that (da bird is a favorite here) may help encourage her to come out and enjoy her new family.

Yes we have the wand, i will leave my shirt in there in the morning. She was starting to scare me cause it seemed she was gassy, but she wouldn't jump off my bed... so i took her back to the laundry room but left the door open. Ugh hopefully she doesnt feel i abandoned her, i would love for her to sleep with me but also dont want any accidents. Everytime one of us goes in the laundry room we pet her and talk to her. My son who is 4 and obviously the one she will probably take more time to trust since hes busy, we are having him pet her and give her treats to build trust.

It was a foster home. I honestly didnt ask much, really sad to say but the place we picked her up was filthy, smelled really bad so i filled out the papers and left. The man who fostered her was very nice, ill try emailing him. I really only asked her age and her personality, he said she was playful and was really good at using her litter box.
