Hi. Our kitten started to pass bloody stools the last few days. I was advised it was colitis by our vet, but i suspected it was worms as he was overdue worming despite being an indoor cat. I gave him half a worming tablet as normally pescribed and sure enough today he passed two curled up worms with another bloody stool. I didnt look closely at the time but the worms are perhaps too big for hookworm but i guess they must be for the blood to exist. The vet advised wait 1 week and see if he now clears up. Hes given no other advise about cross contamination to our puppy or whether to quarantine our kitten at all. Is this right? Most hookworm advice seems to advise special daily treatment and a chaser medication. I dont want to kill off an initial batch only for them to return

The blood is due to irritated intestines/bowels.

All kittens have roundworms and need to be treated twice, two weeks apart.

Be sure to mark your calendar as a reminder to re-treat in 2 weeks.

I'd be a bit concerned about your vet though, not too thorough huh?

Hmm.

I would be concerned about your vet too, did he even take a stool sample?

So far i have only called twice. Once to report a bloody stool to a female vet then a second time for the worms to a male vet. The medicene is labelled as half a tablet every 3 months as hes a 7 month old. The male vet actually suggested every month amnd to review dosage in a months time

Can you tell us the name of the dewormer pill?

This will help me advise or corroborate the correct dosage/frequency.
