It appears to 3 different vets that my 6-1/2 years old cat has IBD or GI symptoms; pancreatitis snap test=negative, blood work, x-rays seems pretty normal ( waiting on urinalysys now) ...my cat responded well to Metronidazole and Cerenia and she's now (temporarely) on a hydrolized protein (not hapyy about the sudden dry food diet switch but she seems to enjoy it and gaining back the little weight she's lost...we'll see).
Now my question is: as I am trying to understand the cause of her illness, I just happen to run accross some articles about corn based cat litter being the cause of IBD?
I've being ising Swheat Scoop cat litter for the last 6 + years and yes, it can be pretty dusty, but never heard of possibly cause such a desease in cats!
I found articles about IBD related to corn based litter but not wheat....
Did anybody ever heard of SWHEAT SCOOP CAT LITTER causing IBD or other deseases in cats? If so, what would be the safest cat litter available then?!
Thanks.

I had never heard of the type of litter causing IBD but I guess anything is possible.  I have a kitty that has IBD and never did figure out what triggers it other than an intolerance for beef.  He is on a low maintenance dose of pred to control symptoms.  He would be on the same food for  a long period of  time and flare.  He had the type of flares that included anorexia, vomiting bile and constipation so they always involved vet bills and sometimes hospitalization.

There are so many possible triggers and different symptoms that it really is a trial and error thing to figure out the cause and sometimes a trigger is never found.  I honestly do not believe that a food was the  main trigger for my kitty.  I have even read that things like weather changes, specifically barometric pressure changes can trigger a flare.
