I struggled for a month or so trying to find my cat River (she is now 1 year old) a wet canned food that worked for her and her sensitive tummy. I wanted her on a rotation but finding her a food that was grain-free and carrageenan free and that worked was hard enough, let alone several foods. Tiki cat was working very well for her for several months but she could only eat the chicken varieties, I didn't want to give her fish and she could not eat beef or she would get sick. She has now begun to throw up after eating again about once a week. She also takes some coaxing to even get her to eat the tiki cat now when before she would immediately scarf it down. She eats two meals a day of wet tiki cat and one meal a day of turkey primal freeze-dried raw. Weruva didn't work well for her and she cannot eat anything with liver chunks in it without getting sick immediately after. Does anyone have any suggestions on food I can try? I am planning on going to the natural pet food store tomorrow and I am at a loss for what to try for her.

It is definitely hard finding food without grains, fish, and carrageenan; one of our cats is sensitive to potato, which makes our food searches even more difficult! I can imagine you have about the same level of difficulty, cutting out beef and liver. Are you looking for only canned ideas right now or are you also considering increasing her raw food?

In terms of canned, I don't really have a lot in the way of other brands to suggest but did want to ask which Tiki you feed and Weruva you've tried. I added Tiki's Gourmet Carnivore chicken/turkey and chicken/duck to our cats' rotation and they like them. And they like the chicken foods (no fish) in Weruva's Cats in the Kitchen foods much more than Weruva's other food lines.

Two other brands that we've tried, with only a little success are Hound & Gatos and Nature's Variety Instinct. I think H&G, though, has liver at least in some foods; I'm not sure about NVI. The cats were never thrilled with either one, though they would grudgingly eat them.

Do you have any sense of why River is throwing up so much? (Other than beef and liver, I mean.) Does there seem to be anything in common about her meals when she throws up? I'm figuring you probably would have mentioned if she's a super-fast eater. (We have to feed one of our cats on a raised platform and spread her food out in the dish to slow her down!)

Good luck!

I suggest trying Nature's Variety as well. It has worked really well for ours with IBD/Food Intolerances. Check out the Pride line too.

You could also check out Purina's new Muse line (carried at Petsmart) as it meets all of your requirements. And, also, Natural Choice.

I've also had success with Natural Choice for a cat we had with sensitivity issues.

If you can get raw goat milk, its never wrong to try it, as occasional supplement or even as a substantial part of her diet, esp as she has a sensitive stomach.

As I understand, upasterized goat milk isnt sold in the usual shops, alike unpasterized cow milk, so in practice you must find someone who knows where to get, by word of mouths as they say.

If you cant get raw goat milk, you can surely try with bottled or such in plasted cardboard boxes, but its not the same super food.

rivertherb, can River eat liver if it's blended in? Both @CatPack and @Miss Mew mentioned Nutro Natural Choice, which our cats love, too, but there are only a few foods without carrageen and I think they all have liver.
