Hey,

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this - newbie over here... I was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice?

I have two cats, a boy and a girl (Chuck and Trillian). They are both three years old, and they've been a part of the family since they were about 7 weeks. They are both spayed/neutered, vaccinated for the outdoors (as they are outdoor cats) and in good health.

In the time they've been with me, we've moved a few times. And I tend to find that when we first move into a new home Trillian is prone to a few "accidents" around the house, and if I understand this correctly that's her way of telling me she's stressed out about the fact that we've moved and she's not familiar with where we are, etc. But this always stops after a week or two. About two months ago we moved into what should be a more permanent home, but her "accidents" haven't stopped.

I'm not really convinced that these are down to her being stressed anymore. She seems to be perfectly comfortable in the house, happy to come and go as she pleases (well, we don't have a cat flap, but she'll wait at the door when she wants out, or window when she wants in), and she's back to her usual playful, loving self. And the accidents are restricted to three locations. If I keep her out of those rooms, there are no accidents. I wonder if maybe this is because she previously used those places when she was stressed and now they smell to her like somewhere she can use as a litter tray (we don't have a litter tray in the house. I've tried getting her one, but she wont use it. She prefers to go outside - or in one of the three places!!). The places are the living room rug, the bathmat in the bathroom, and my bed....

So it's gotten to the point where I just don't leave her in any of those rooms unattended and it's fine. She can get into the spare bedroom, the hall, and the kitchen/dining room and there's no accidents. But last night, she pee'd in the bed whilst I was sleeping on it, only for me to wake up basically lying in her puddle of pea, which annoyed me quite a lot. She usually sleeps in the bed with me over night, but this is the first time she's had an accident whilst I was there...

Anyway, the mattress and sheets are ruined, there is only so many times you can clean out the smell of cat pee, so I'm going to have to get a new bed. Which is fine, but I'm worried that if it isn't just the smell for her that i'll buy a new bed only for it to get ruined too. And more importantly, maybe she is still stressed or anxious and I'm just not seeing it, i've taken her to the vet who says she appears to be in good health and suggested it's likely still jsut being anxious, but i'm just not convinced.

Anyway, sorry for the essay.... Could anyone offer any insight as to why she might be doing this, and to how I can help her/save my furniture haha?

Thanks,

Matt

Ps - not that I imagine anyone would suggest it, but as I did see it on another forum I was reading about this problem - I wouldn't ever consider giving her up or euthanising her. I want her to stop peeing in annoying places, but I love her and she's staying with me!

hi, I had one of my babies do this a couple months ago...  I have one of those big black cages from wal-mart.  I had a small liter box on the bottom and a shelf bed to keep her off the floor.   BUT a vet visit may  find the Overlooked Question.. WHY or WHAT!

My baby had a UTI issue.. but a VET visit is a good start....  Otherwise keep her in a bathroom with liter box and water and food... til you can get to the vet...  hope everything gets better..
