Hi, all!

My cat York is a 10 year old rescue -- I got him last year. Within the first few months he had to go to the vet for a series of enemas because he has megacolon. The vet said to try Dick van Patten's and give him Laxatone.

Fastforward to last week when I took him to the vet because he was having bloody stool. He had been having a really hard time pooping all that time but I assumed that was normal because of the megacolon. However, the vet really took me to task -- apparently York is too thin (I couldn't tell! :< he's a very LARGE cat) as well as he was severely impacted. The vet was able to get most of it out via enemas, and he recommended switching to I/D and also I'm giving York Lactulose 2x daily.

The problem is he really doesn't like I/D OR the Dick van Patten's and hasn't been eating much, so yesterday I got really worried and gave him a can of Friskies I had lying around. he ate the whole thing! Today he ate another whole can. SO I'm not sure what to do. Is it okay to give him Friskies? Is there a tastier kind of healthy food (I'm not really sure what the specific benefits of the I/D or DVP are)?

Also, I currently give him yeast supplements (because his fur is kind of gross) which he LOVES, but I'm worried they're not appropriate because of the severity of his megacolon. Does anybody know if yeast tablets are okay for cats with megacolon? Is there a type of treat that's more appropriate?

Thanks to anybody who weighs in, I have a nervous wreck for the last week because I don't know how to manage the megacolon AND get him to eat more.

OH i forgot to add that when I adopted him he only had 4 teeth left and that is still the case, so he has some problems eating because of the lack of teeth.
