Hi there, nice to meet you! I’m glad I found this site!

I’m trying to find a food I can give my 8 year old female cat just diagnosed with IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease) a week ago. The vet put her on Prednisolne (steroid), and changed her diet. The vet said to feed her Hill’s d/d canned food or Royal Canin selected protein canned food which she absolutely hates.

I noticed she was rather thin. She was down to 7 pounds from her normal 9 pounds. Pretty much skin and bones for her size… Our vet said to just feed her whatever she would eat. So she eats the Hill’s w/d canned food.

I don’t want to continue feeding her the w/d, because my cat used to eat the w/d, before she’s started to vomit in January this year.

I’ve been reading a lot of articles about feline IBD, and found that some cats with IBD do very well on a raw meat diet. I thought it would be worth trying a raw diet. So I asked our vet’s opinion about it, but the vet didn’t recommend a raw diet at all. The vet told me to find any good quality diet for my cat.

So I guess I need to stick with canned foods.

If you know what brand of canned food is good for a cat with IBD, please let me know. Or if you have a cat with IBD, what brands have you found that works for your cat?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story!

Thank you for the link, detmut!

I hope my local pet store has it,  so I can buy a few of them to see if my cat would eat.

Go to the catinfo..org.  There is a lot of info on what to feed.  I feed my cat Instinct but am concerned about the amount of fat it contains.  That said if your kitty will make the change I would try the instinct.  It is so important to keep them eating.

Thank you for your comment and the link, Riley1!

Yeah, the instinct Limited Ingredient must be really good for a cat with IBD!

The only thing that I'm concerned about is the Instinct has peas. I thought I need to feed my cat soy free, but I’m not sure.

I’ll stop by a pet store this evening. Hope my cat will like the Instinct!

If you know how to find out if the food have too much phosphorus or not, please let me know.

Thanks again for all of your advice.

The peas used in Instinct are "green peas" not edamame. So, no worry about soy.

The peas are whole and there aren't very many in a can, so really easy to pick out if you wish.
