Hey there,

My 11 year old cat has had Entropion (lower eye lid) for the last 2 months on and off (Short Haired, Maine Coon/Domestic) on her left eye.  I've taken her to the vet and to the eye specialist.  The specialist is recommending surgery, but he did that after spending only about 15 minutes with me and not even testing for any underlying causes (such as Feline Herpes, etc).  $200 well spent...

The positive thing is that my cat has been doing better the last 2 weeks.  She has had more good days than bad days.  This past week the entropion only was visible for 2 of the 7 days, where as other weeks it has been visible for 5 or 6 days.

So my question - I know Entropion is usually treated with surgery, but I was just wondering if I should hold out for hope or was this week just a coincidence?

Thanks,

Get the surgery done or your cat can develope an ulcer that can lead to blindness. My cat had both her lower lids done at separate times. The hair was rubbing on her eye...so she would either squint or keep that eye closed.

We tried tacking the first eyelid to try and train it, but a week after getting stitches out, the lid curved back in.

Surgery is around 3-400$ per eye and takes only about 20 minutes. A cone is required for 2 weeks. No exceptions. It is too delicate area for her to rip the stitches out.

P.S. It can take less than a minute to diagnose entropion. There is no cure except for surgery.
It is rare in cats, but a good vet will spot it easily because they see it a lot in dogs.
