It always drives me crazy when parents don't teach their young children to be gentle with animals. I was watching the first story with poor Shadow, who the husband referred to as a "demon" cat. The clueless parents could not understand why their cat was so mean, and they then stood there with Jackson watching amused as their five year old daughter Capri abused both of the family's cats right in front of them. They later recorded some more abuse she inflicted on their more docile cat Sophie and did nothing to intervene. Shadow has obviously been hurt or terrified by the girl in the past, which is why she is scared and lashes out. How can the parents not see that, and why do they have to have a stranger point it out to them? I feel more worried for the other cat Sophie, who does not fight back, and as a result, takes the brunt of the abuse.

Luckily, Jackson gets through to everyone, eventually!

I think there may have been only 1 episode where he wasn't very successful.

Even though he got through to the parents, and they finally laid down the law with their daughter, I hope it lasts. If they are not consistent, and I suspect they are not, the little girl and the cat will revert back to their old behavior. Putting the cats in the carrier and threatening to take them away was a good wake up call for their daughter, but if she catches on that they are not serious, that ploy will not work again. Even though the husband seemed willing to give up the cats, there is no way that the wife would allow it. There should be a consequence for the daughter that the parents follow through with every time she mistreats one of the cats.

I didn't watch it this past Saturday but they will probably rerun it before the new one this coming Saturday.  Some people are just completely clueless or they think their children are so cute and they are just being kids.  It is true they are just being kids that is why they have parents to correct their behavior.  Unfortunately it's parents like this that will be the first ones that will demand that a 'vicious' animal be put down when they lash out.

Oh wow. We got our first cat when I was 4 years old, and she was the light of my life. Sorry to say but if a 5 year old is sadistic she needs help.

My happy place.
We don't get My Cat From Hell over here in the UK but I have watched a few episode's on YouTube, he's one amazing man!

I remember being invited over for a coffee at a friends house one afternoon (I hadn't known her very long) and she had a dog. At the time her kids were 5 & 9. On this afternoon it was me her and her youngest child and while she was in the kitchen next door making our drinks her youngest was repeatedly pushing his sit on train into the poor dog. I then tried to explain to the child that he shouldn't do this as it would hurt the dog and make him cry (trying my best to explain to a 5 year old how the dog feels) but then my friend shouted through from the kitchen for me not to worry about the dog saying that if he gets hurt he'll move!
What sort of lesson is this teaching the child!?

My two daughters were very young when we got our first cat and I have always taught them that they must have respect, not only for our cat but for all animals and I certainly would have come down very hard on them if ever they did anything nasty. Which they never did, they have grown up to have the same love of animals as I have. I remember telling them that if an animal loves you that makes you a very special person.

Wow, sorry, I've rambled on a bit but honestly I will never understand the mentality of some people.

They finally aired this episode in th uk ( kittywhiskers kittywhiskers they show it on Animal Planet). I was fuming - NO cat deserves that kind of treatment. Those kids were obnoxious spoilt brats in my opinion. Parents like that should be banned from pet ownership!

I hope Jackson's rules stick, otherwise god help those poor cats.

I haven't watched that episode but I saw the follow up on Animal Planet's website. It looks like it's working and the kids have become the teachers to new comers to the home, demonstrating how to approach the cats to others. So that's great news for 6 months later! Let's hope it does stick.

This reminds me of my father and a little bit of my youngest sister. I've told them TIME AND TIME again, to NOT try to pick up Ming or chase after him. His ears go down, he flops down as if to surrender and I tell them. this is his way of saying, "I GIVE UP! Don't hurt me!" but no. They don't listen.

I am consistent though in telling them to stop. I hear Ming cry in his scared meow sometimes from another room and I will go out and find them in the act and reprimand them. A couple of times, I'd be in the shower and Ming usually likes to sit in front of the door while I'm in there and I'll hear his meow. I would yell at them while in the shower! That's how annoyed I am at them. I don't want to upset the cat by being loud but sometimes, I can't get through to them unless I'm on the one hissing and growling since Ming is a passive cat.

Is it horrible that I hope one day, Ming lashes out and shows them who's boss??? I'm tired of hearing things like, "No! It's alright. He's fine, see?" Only to see Ming under a table with his ears down.

:hugs: mingking mingking Not at all. I hope Ming gives them a good swipe to teach them to back off. (I speak as someone who was delighted that Asha would hit the dogs to make them respect her to start with...I now have to 'protect' the dogs from her as they're scared to pass her now :lol3: )

I did finally see that episode as a rerun.  It was maddening.  I got the impression that those parents fell in the category of, Aren't my  kids so cute and sweet they do no wrong.  I don't mean to blame the children, they are small children who need guidance, I blame the parents.  They thought that the kitty that was taking that handling was the 'good' kitty and the other kitty was the 'bad' one that needed Jackson to modify his behavior.  Actually the kitty that wouldn't take it was much closer to 'normal' behavior.

I am kind of glad that we don't have cable any more. I couldn't stand some of the people on there but I love and respect Jackson!
