My cat gave birth to a litter of 6. 2 died, and one won't nurse. She had them under a chair. I moved them, but this kitten was caught in a torn up part of the chair for hours. Did the mom disown her? Help!

It's also smaller than the others, I moved the kittens so she could find a teat and she is drinking contentedly. Still, any advice so I can make sure she stays this way?

Get some kmr or goat milk (raw goat milk is best) our experts will tell you how much and how often

Any store should have them, like walmart or any pet store

Do you have a scale? Kitchen scale?

If your kitten is nursing contentedly, then no need to do anything. If she is being rejected or not getting enough and not growing, then it is time to start supplemental feedings. It sounds like all is well. Do you think everything is okay? Let us know and we can give further instructions. But if she is getting what she needs from mama, then we don't interfere. Please report.

I agree with SArthur.   If  she nurses, and momma allows it, the situation isnt too desperate.  But still, you must follow up her extra closely.   As you have right, mom probably tried to abandon her.  So mom may do it again.     Also, being smaller then the others, its easy for the bigger brutes to  shove her from the best teats.

Its a big litter anyway, so you will may earlier or sooner be forced to supplment some anyways.

So, follow her optically, so to speak, so you know what happens.   Be sure she has her share of teat-time.  do it when perhaps when the biggest siblings are asleep.

Do weigh them every day at the same time - this little one every 12 hours to begin with - so you see they do gain.   The bigger shall gain 10+g every day, the smaller will prob gain somewhat less, but 6+g a day is a minimum.   so get home an electronical kitchen scale measiuring in grammes. There are cheap such in Walmart.  Or borrow from some neigbour.

Get home kmr or goat milk.  Raw goat milk is best, but bottled, about 3% fat, is OK.   There are many brands of kmr.  The best is made by PetAg, labelled KMR, in powder.

Royal Canin makes also a good Baby milk motther milk replacer.  Their bottle is also good.

Get home a needleless syringe of 1ml.   With weak ones such a syringe is often easier than a bottle.   The position is tummy down, head up, syringe in the corner of the mouth, slowly, so  you are sure she swallows properly.  Burp afterwards on your shoulder.

Come back with reports and new questions.

Good luck!
