My cat Cleo is having some uti problems. I am giving her a cranberry powder that I picked up from my pet store. I'm wondering if I should try the acv. and if it's safe with the powDer . I am worried because her brother died from this condition and I feel I need to act quickly with her.

Larissa, how is your cat now? UTI infections as you already know can get serious. Has she been seen by the vet.

I can't get to vet . I have her on the acv. And soft food plus the cranberry powder. She seems to be doing much better. She is no longer peeing on my bed or laundry and is using her box more frequently. She don't seem to be in pain and she has no fever. Do you think I will have to keep her on the acv. ?

I have been through a UTI & then cystitis twice w/ Angel in 2012.  I learned from someone on here that cranberry is not good to give cats. I had bought some treats w/ it in them. I stopped giving them as soon as I found out. I don't remember if it was a dosage thing, or what, but discontinued to be on the safe side.

You would think these companies would do the research before they put something out.

It's good she is using the litter box, but if she is using it frequently, she is having a problem. Also, how big are the clumps? Are they her normal size, & going only 2-3xs/day or more? Any more than that & she is irritated. ( Once I mentioned to the vet that Angel had gone pee 3xs/day vs/ his usual two, & she said he could be irritated, even though the clumps were close to normal size for him).

Also keep a close eye on the litter box to make sure there isn't blood present.

The vet also put Angel on cosequin for the bladder inflammation. If you can feed her wet food for urinary care, plus add some purified water to it,  I would highly recommend that as well.  (I still add water from the PUR filter to this day!)

*Above all, she does need to be seen by the vet as soon as you can. She may not act like she is in pain, but as we know, cats can hide that very well.

*They need to make sure it is only a UTI, & not something like cystitis, which is crystals in the bladder.

If it's a UTI as you know, she needs antibiotics, & if it's more, she will need more specific treatment.  You mentioned acv, what is that?

I am going to mention LDG to hopefully bring more advice for you from very knowledgeable members.

Good luck, & keep us posted.

Apple cider vinegar is acv . I don't mind taking her off the cranberry powder . She is peeing about 3 X a day but she don't like to drink a lot of water but I give her bottle water just because we are on well water and it has a large amount of minerals in it.

Oh yea, o.k.  Hopefully LDG will have the link for the cranberry for you. It was in one of my threads when Angel had cystitis, but couldn't tell you which one, or where.
I don't think 3xs/day is tooooo bad, as long as they are normal, or close to normal sizes. Angel never drinks either, because he gets so much from the wet food, plus added water. adding some water in her food will be the best way to get some in her. Just enough to make the food like oatmeal constancy.

Trust me, I had to give angel fluids every other day  a couple of times to help keep his bladder flushed, it's no fun having to stick your baby w/ a needle. Especially an 18 gauge one!

The cosequin is also a good idea for any possible inflammation.  I have found the best price on amazon. Now that angel is 11 yrs old. i keep him on it for maintenance, & hopefully, he will never have any joint problems. During the urinary issues, it was given every day. After every other for maintenance.

Here'a a link to what I get,

That's great news!!  I know what you mean. I have gotten so much support & help on this site, that I always try to help others if I can.

As far as allergies, if it's just seasonal pollen, an allergy pill can help. Depending on how much she weighs for dosage.  Angel stays around 15 lbs. & the vet told me that I could give him a 1/2 of a generic clariton, or Zyrtec. (24 hr.)   I just put a little piece of pill pocket around it & give it to him w/ his "night, night treat."  I've done it for years now.  I really try & keep the windows closed unless the pollen count is really down. Angel is sensitive to it & gets itchy & then chews. When he used to go outside 4 years ago, he would have his belly all chewed up from it.

I found this great site you can sign up for w/ your zip code, & it will send you email notices of the pollen count. It's nice because it also tells you what it is at the time. It's on a scale from 1-12, so if it's above a 5 or 6, I keep the windows closed. Right now, here in NC it's Burch, oak, etc.. mostly trees.  It's really been helpful to know, even for me.
