Hi, I have a 12 week old kitten that I got when she was 8 weeks. Shortly after we got her she started sneezing and coughing. So I took her to the vet, and he couldn't find anything wrong. So I'm wondering if it could be the litter and how to determine if it is?

I use Tidy Cats clumping litter

What type of litter was she using before you got her? Was she having symptoms there? Where did you adopt her from (breeder, rescue, shelter??)

I don't know what kind of litter she was using. But when I asked of she had any problems with sneezing before we got her she said she hadn't. I got her from a breeder.

I would contact the breeder and find out what type of litter was used there. If it was different, see if it is feasible for you to use that litter for awhile and see if her symptoms subside. I would do this before trying something else.

I do have 1 cat in the rescue that developed an allergy to clay litter (his was skin allergy). He and his roommate now use Blue Buffalo litter (it's walnut based).

She could also be sensitive to the fragrance. As far as this goes, the BB litter doesn't use perfumes. Dr. Elsy's Precious Cat litter is an unscented/fragrance-free litter and Cat's Pride makes 3 litters that are Fragrance-free (2 light-weight litters and a Natural litter).

Thanks. I'll find out, and go from there.
