I'm searching for answers as well. My cat gave birth to just 1 kitten last night. She spent yesterday meowing loudly & very anxiously. She kept peeing whenever she stopped walking & I started wondering if she may a uti then last night at approximately 11 pm I hear the distinct cry of a newborn kitten. I stayed up & watched her all night expecting more kittens but so far nothing. She's eating, drinking, peeing & pooping always. She's nursing & caring for her baby as if all is well but I'm very worried about the one kitten. I really would appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance.

One kitten IS unusual but not unheard of, especially with first time mothers. I bet the 'pee' was the water from the birthing sac. As long as mama is taking care of the baby and doesn't seem to be anxious or still having labor pains, everything should be all right. Keep an eye on the mother though, if she starts having a smelly discharge from the birth canal or starts acting lethargic, please get her to a vet, she may have a dead kitten inside or an infection.  For now just enjoy that sweet family and please think about having her spayed so she doesn't present you with 6 kittens the next time! ( I had one that had 2 litters in only 3 months!) All the luck!

How wonderful. So there really only was one kitten. Keep us posted and add some pictures if you wish.

If you are thinking the baby is alone, or the mom wants more to do, you may perhaps consider getting some foster care?

If so, easiest to contact the vets around, they usually knows if an extra mom is needed.

Just be reasonable sure the new mates are healthy.  You dont risk to draw some unpleasant contagion on your little family.
