I heard meowing in my attic yesterday morning so I ventured up to see what the ruckus was and low and behold I found a mama cat with a brand new baby still wet so only minutes old. Mama is sweet as can be . so I brought them both down and made a laundry basket with towel and blanky for them. Mama immediately took to basket and me.I checked mama over she is doing well with first kitty however her breasts are huge and look to be like tumors. I have seen more movement in her belly like more kitties but she still hasn't had anymore. She is content and feeding no strain or contractions. No panting. She is eating and drinking well but I'm worried she has more in there. Is it normal to have kittens this far apart and what's wrong with her breasts plz help I want to help her. I plan on keeping her and getting her spayed but what can I do for her now. Thx

Its normal, and quite common for them to have deliveries some hours, or even days apart.

The trick to worry or to wait and see, is if she is contend, OK, no visible problems - if so, you can wait and see yes.   As it seems here.

In her case, I think she needs the pause as it has happened so much, with you founding her.

She is sweet not only because she IS sweet - surely a dumped family girl - but also, she does her outmost to please herself in, to give her children the best chance they can get.

And thus, the need demands she is awaiting a little with next birth, till she knows what is played here, till she knows you are docile and reliable enough.    :)

Cats can in some degree regulate when they shall deliver. Not the exact day but at least, the exact hour.

The teats?   I hope they are normal, even is more than average.  They DO get visibly bigger, and are probably also filled with milk.

Also, the hairs around are away, so they are more visible than otherwise.

Also, she could have a litter earlier, so her teats are bigger than with a young virgin.  So to speak.

Tx a lot for caring!

Good luck!

Thx for the quick response. Mama is still tending great to kitty and is extremely affectionate with me. I am giving her kitten food for added nutrition and plenty of water. I swear she has more kitties in there at least 1 or 2. I am worried a out the teats tho can I post a pic on here.

It's hard to tell with a picture but they do look a little odd to me. I would definitely call a vet. Tell them how you found her and want to help her sometimes they will let you just show them the picture and give meds if they are needed. At the very least they can tell you if she needs medical care or not.

Good luck and thank you for being the kind and caring person you are.

OK I know that this sounds strange but her teats look engorged.. Reminds me of how engorged I was with my daughter. Could she possibly just have lot of milk.. I mean I don't even think all kitties are here yet.

I was thinking she may be engorged as well, and it does sound like she has more to deliver, but it sure can't hurt to phone a vet & perhaps email the picture. Maybe they can advise over the phone. Hopefully she will deliver the rest soon. As StefanZ said, she is probably settling in and making sure everything is okay before having more. Bless this mama kitty for seeking shelter and bless you for taking care of her! Please keep us posted.

1.) Be sure to check all around in the attic to make sure there aren't any kittens hidden away up there.

2.) I also suggest contacting a vet. I can't say for certainty, but, I'm a little concerned about mastitis.

OK so contacted vet and sent pics... Vet is pretty certain that mama is just engorged... Suggested warm washcloth compresses. Also I was informed that many times strays may be pregnant by multiple toms on different days causing delays in birth. Also said mama could have stalled labor to feel new place out. He said as long as mama is not straining, in pain, panting ect....contented is great and as long as I continue to see movement in belly to just be patient and observe.

That is a good vet! Do check the attic just to be sure, though I think Mama would be frantically looking everywhere if she were missing a kitten. Looking forward to more kitten news soon!

Splendid!   Beaming!   Interesting, she had yet another pause.   As you see, such pauses happen, they dont even need to be stressed and wait on a suitable moment.

Keep reporting!

Good luck, and good vibes to you and your protegées.
