I have a 9 yr old female spayed black cat, She's extremely healthy, plays nice, seems to be content in her life. She eats well, is on a diet right now though because she recently had her check up at the vet and even though it was a clean bill of health, she has 4 lbs to loose. She gets around fine though.

Anyway, I live in a condo, and change my cat's litter box on a daily basis, She, once every other week will poop outside her litter box, usually right next to it as if she's hanging her butt too far over the box, but a couple of times since I've moved here 4yrs ago, she has pooped across the room. I don't understand it. My vet took a fecal sample, turned out negative. what could be causing her to do this?

Possibly the litter box is too small.  I use the large sterlite under the bed storage boxes.  I have 2 cats that are both long.  They need extra room so the poop doesn't end up outside the box.  Also is there enough litter in the box?  Do you have one more than litter box?

Here is a bit of info on litter box issues

I thought of that too. Where do I find a bigger pan? She doesn't like them with the lid on them. any ideas? I have been looking but they all come with lids. Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate it.

Well the clocks running,.. and you don't know when the next bomb (poopy) is coming...

-

Windex window cleaner has helped me with clean up, both pee pee & poopies...

-

I see some good links & info. all up down this site...

-

May I suggest baby wipes, I use the cucumber scented (safe for babies face etc...) They seem to help out great when cleaning the inner and outer walls of the poopy BOX!

-

I have a cat who isn't really hairy, but has hair growing off her paws..  I trim them with those grade school scissors (plastic protective prototypes).. and she still manages to get lil-lil dried up poopies between her toes... Upon closer inspection is what I think causes her to occasionally miss the TUB (poopy box).  AGAIN those baby wipes clean her paws up just fine.  It sure beats her licking up poop & litter granules?!?

-

AND potting soil, (just a couple teaspoons broadcasted into the TUB)... CATS are instinctive lil creatures... they love their window friends and they do love dirt...  BATH them sometime and if you've tried to dry your kitty.  In no time their rolling in a most undesirable part of the house to blend back to their version of "comfortable"...

-

AND not to get to TECHY, But not all plastic is equal.  Some if not most plastic TUBs absorb a lot of odors, SO a good cleaning is essential.  I am experimenting with those disposable liter boxes and not all my cats like it.

ONE- the ones available in the stores all seem to have low walls.  I like to use the ones with the cover  and high walls but w/o the lid...  anyways there is no TWO & i'm rambling now.. GOOD LUCK  my Gringos enjoying them-selves..

I found mine at Target.  It's about 25" long by 18 wide and 5 deep.  It's with the rubbermaid containers.  It's clear.  You don't use the lid.

This is what I am talking about.  This is for a set of 6, but you can buy just one at the store for around $8.  Walmart or home improvement stores sell them too.

This is exactly what I use.  My beautiful Rizzo would stand in the box & pee all over the floor.  Being a new cat person I didn't know what to do.  A rescue group said he was a vertical guy & to get a 40 gallon container & cut a door in it.  The container was really high & this solved the problem.  My new cat was fine with her big box but was throwing litter all over the place.  I got a higher (not 40 gallon) box) & cut a doorway for her.  No more litter all over the floor.

The litter boxes sold in the pet stores are just not big enough for most cats.  People want to hide the boxes so they get small ones.  Must be like being in an airplane bathroom for the poor cats.  They also use lids, scented litter & put the in the basement.  I wish people who want cats would realize that some adjustments are needed to own one.

Very true. Having said that , Shadow insists on a covered box (it's the biggest we could get though). If we take the lid off whilst he's in there we get the biggest glare ever! Asha's also choosing Shadow's covered box over her open one :confuse3:

Those undebed boxes look great though, and I'd definitely go with that or a rubber maid and door setup if I had a cat that needed/wanted the extra space.

Just for future reference, mortar tubs make sturdy, large litter boxes and are usually available in various depths. The deep ones are great for cats that like to stand while they urinate. They're a bit too deep for kittens or elderly cats, though.

Well thank you all once again! You're great!!

Also, I was having a problem with Zoey's skin, horrible dandruff, I washed her up, put one application of Vaseline on her, The next day, I rinsed off the rest and started applying a spray conditioner. It seems to be doing the job, I haven't seen any dandruff at all!!

Please don't use any kind of conditioner for humans or dogs on her, as they could be toxic. The vet can recommend a food supplement for dandruff, which isn't uncommon during shedding season.

Spray in conditioner really isn't a good idea. They're not designed to be ingested - but that's exactly what your cat is doing every time she grooms herself. A supplement would be far safer.
