my mama cat that came to me as a pregnant stray in Feb, gave birth to two babies. The second one was stillborn. Her baby is now over two days old and crawls around. lol He seems very strong. I am trying to keep the room extra warm for him because he is just one baby. (additional to central heat I put a space heater in the room to keep it warmer) She comes and goes out of the closet for a stretch and for me to pet her as well as to use her litter box. I am just worried because I don't want him to get cold. I also put a heating pad in her nest so when she leaves he can lean against it. Sometimes I put on a latex glove and put him on it. Of course he calls out to her when I do that and she comes running back to him. She is never really out for more than 10 minutes. Should I be worried that he will get cold? I would not be so concerned if there were more babies but he is the only one and has nobody keep him warm when she leaves the nest

please help with any advice you have.

Laurie

ps mama is just young.

I agree with that above.   Good you are thinking on him being comfortably warm, but you are possibly too protective here.

Also, that latex glove isnt really necessary.  Cat moms dont abandon their kitten just because a human touched him.  Especielly not if the mom is friendly with you.   Rabbits may do, but not cats.   That is perhaps why the boy cries, the touch is funny to him.   A warm human hand would feel more nice.

Please continue to report and ask!

Thank you Stefan :) I left Ms. Whiskers alone with her baby all night and just checked on them this morning.  She is in great spirits this morning and baby Oscar is doing well too. She seemed really content that nobody was checking in on her every hour. lol she gave me one of her sweet "hello" meows.

The first 48 hours I wanted to make sure she was doing okay too so I kept a close eye. They are both nice and warm.thanks :) .
