Our cat Tigger is about 8 years old and suddenly started losing weight. He was eating and drinking good, playing and running around with the other cat.

We took him to the vet because we were worried about him losing weight. The vet told us to come back and get him after a few hours so they could vet a stool and urine sample along with a blood sample.

We went back to get him and they said he had diabetes.

Since we brought him home he wont eat, wont drink, or even get up to use the litter box. He will go wherever he is laying. He won't even close his eyes.

When he does get up and (barely) walks he is very weak and moves like he is sore. We have been feeding him with a medicine dropper and it seems to help a bit.

What did the vet do to our kitty?! I mean, he was fine before we took him, other than the losing weight part..

Call the vet and let him or her know that your cat has gotten worse since being brought home. Did the vet give you any treatment for the diabetes - daily insulin injections, urine testing, diet, etc?

If I were you, I would take the cat right away to the nearest vet ER for treatment. It sounds like your cat's blood glucose levels are seriously off - either way too low or way too high - or there is something else complicating the diabetes or it may be something unrelated. I wouldn't try to attempt to treat the symptoms at home without knowing for certain what is wrong via a blood glucose test and / or a urine ketone test. High ketone levels indicate a serious condition called diabetic ketoacidosis which cannot be treated at home.

Yes, definitely need to know the blood sugar # (curve test is best but more expensive; a spot/quick test will still give you an idea). How did the vet say to treat the diabetes?
