My neighbors cat had kittens in our yard under our sleds, and I'm fairly certain my cat is the father as the kittens are color point like him and he's the one that's this color in the whole neighborhood. Anyways my neighbors are moving across the country in a couple weeks, which makes the kittens mine lol a surprise, but a good one. Now I'm trying to figure out if they will have long or short hair. Both parents are shorthair, but both parents carry the long hair gene. Also their hair is way different feeling than the short hair kittens I use to have. What do you think?

Its difficult to say anything about the lengh of the fur at this early age.  My guess is they are shorthair, but I had seen a shorthaired kitten of about 10 weeks, whom grew an longhairded adult cat...   Alike a changeling.   :)

Is the momma with them taking care of them, or YOU must do everything?  If so, you know how and what?

You are welcome to our Preg and Kitten care forum, for more detailed advices.

Is the mom point too?  If not, she is surely a carrier.   Yes, with all 3 kittens, at least one of the parents must be a full point, its not enough with two carriers.

But, if you arent a breeder, please consider strongly to neuter him.  And the kittens too when they come into the age for it.

Good luck!

StefanZ StefanZ The momma is taking care of them, but if she were to stop I'd know what to do as I've raised a litter of 5 before [emoji]128522[/emoji] and the dad is color point. And I know for sure that the mom is a carrier for the color point gene. And I know also that both mom and dad are carriers for the long hair gene, and that the mom bas had both long and short hair kittens before. As for spaying and neutering, the mom is pretty feral, and also she's not my cat. And all the kittens are males, so at least they can't get pregnant. But I'll look into neutering my Tom cat once I find homes for the kittens.
Here's more pictures of their hair

And here's the father

bonepicker bonepicker Well, as I said before, the female cat not only isn't my cat, but she's feral. And the male cat is mine. But I'm still in school and live with my parents, and they won't pay to get a male cat fixed because they're not worried about him getting pregnant.

I am sorry that is very sad. Maybe you could do some odd jobs to pick up money to pay to get him neutered and maybe your parents will chip in or I fear you will be overrun with kittens, which will soon overwhelm the neighborhood as cats multiply ver quickly. They mate before kittens are weaned.

Wish I wasn't at full pet capacity so cute I love baby kittens. Wouldn't recommend it but found my calico kitten when she was around 3or 4 weeks old I would guess. She was fearless yet so tiny. She still tries to nurse on my shirt and she just turned 3 yrs old. Can't guess on coat length yet maybe around 12 weeks you'll know for sure. :vibes: best wishes

bonepicker bonepicker Unfortunately, even when I get my cat fixed, it won't fix the problem. My neighbor has at least 5 female cats and 3 males, they're all outside and there's only one that's not feral, but even she's pretty wild, I don't think I could catch her. I think they might've started out with 1 cat and things just got out of control. But they're moving to alsaska in a couple weeks, and I'm not sure what to do about all of their cats. I can't rehome them because they're wild, and I can't get them all fixed because that would be way too expensive plus I can't catch them.

Those are some very cute furballs. Furballs are seen every where, they are a species of small cuddly cats that curl up while sleeping. Known to make humans smile a lot.

Your kitty is very handsome and the kittens are adorable, but I think you need to go on the Maury Povich show and get a DNA test. He does not look like the daddy.
why not?  points are white when born.  Tehy darken up into their patterns later on, sometimes as early as 1 week, but not earleier.

I agree with Bonepicker.   All these cats should be spayed / neutered.

There are low cost spaying clinics, and so.  So this doenst need to cost a fortune.  Just a couple of  movie visits less.  Ifs not just the ticket you know. You usually buy also some candies and soda, no?   Oh yes, I know!    :)

You can surely try and find some rescue or TNR group nearby, re this semiferale female, mother to these kittens.

And please, talk with these neighbours with that bunch of unspayed cats.   With essentially the same advice.  If they bother a little, it isnt difficult nor costly, to get them all spayed.

It will make the life easier both for the cats in question, and for the whole neigbourhood.  Much less fights and shriekings.  Much less peeing and marking.  Much less risk for unpleasant contagions like Felv - which is spread by deep bites.   Etc, etc.

Tell them you got these advices on our Forum, if you so wish.

You can perhaps do the ground work, and search out these TNR groups nearby?  And even contact them re the situation?   So it will just for your parents and the neigbours to give the consent.

Talk with your teacher in Social Sciences or Biology.  It may be even possible he will allow you do do this as one of your school projects.   I would, if one of my pupils or students come with such an initiative.   A little of "send further on" as in the book and movie, but here in real practice.

It will be a praiseworthy deed too.  Ad Maiorem Gloria Dei.

Stefan, I know that the points darken as the kittens age. I'm just saying that the kittens look like they are a Siamese mix and the father cat looks like a tabby cat--unless he is some kind of lynx point?

Yes, he is lynx point.  Has blue eyes, and you can see the masque on the face if you look closely.

The TS too said his male is a point.

T tabbysia I'm about 99% sure he is the dad. He is Lynx point. I'll post a better picture when I find one. Also the kittens look just like he did as a baby, same colors and everything.

StefanZ StefanZ Those are good ideas, but I'm not so sure that any of them will work in this situation. There's only one low cost spaying place near me, and it's an hour away, and it only does cheap/free spaying once a year, and it's already past, not to mention I wouldn't be able to catch any of the cats, let alone get them in a car. As for talking to my neighbors, I know that won't do any good either. They're saving up every penny for their move, and even if it cost them $5 per cat to get them all fixed, they wouldn't pay for it. They don't really claim the cats as their own, but the cats stick around their yard so I call them theirs. And schools out too, I graduate in about 15 days, plus I only go half a day and don't have either of those classes. The only reasonable plan I could think of was calling the dog catcher once my neighbors move and having him round them up, but that's a for sure death sentence for the cats. I'm trying to think of a better plan that's not too far fetched. The town I live in doesn't much care for animals, let alone cats. My street has at least 15 or more cats on it, and my street isn't even close to the worst one in town. We have a major cat problem and there mostly feral. Our dog pound is really small and no one worries about doing anything with the cats. It's pretty sad. I'm also moving out of town this summer (I'll be taking my cats with me, and they won't be having any babies of their own) but idk what to do about neighbors problem or if I can even do anything.
Also, don't know what a TNR group is.

Now I have a whole new problem, because the momma moved the babies and if I can't work with them some before they get too old, then they will be feral like the rest of the cats

Do you have any places that are extremely quite in the neighborhood with not alot of people around? If you want to find them that where I would start. The two that I was talking about to answer your original question were abandoned in the hay at my friends barn. Also being that the mother is ferral may make her do this possibly again. She wants to protect them even though you won't harm them. Also I may have missed this part in the earlier post but did you check the sex of them? I'm just curious if you have boys or girls because they are so cute. Love the markings.
