Hi, I'm not a new cat owner but I've never had a female before! We got two brothers from the RSPCA at 11 weeks (they said) and we've now had them for 4 months. Turns out one is a girl!! She's lovely if a bit standoffish but recently she's been acting very affectionate.

We had the male neutered about a month ago, and they get along really well still, but I'm worried the female might be pregnant. We don't have enough money to get her spayed yet (I just got laid off) so we're keeping them inside for now, since they've always been indoor cats, but I recently learned that neutered toms can still father kittens up to 6 weeks after. He was only 4-5 months when we got him done, but I'm still worried.

She's a little firm around the belly but nothing unusual really. They're wormed regularly. She's a little off her food occasionally now and we caught her dry heaving and then eating again yesterday. Her nipples are visible when the stretches and a little bald around them but I can't remember if they ever looked different. She also yowls a lot, especially when alone in a room, and it kinda sounds like heat yowling but she's not exhibited any other signs so far. Sometimes she yowls in the litter now idk why ??

I'm just worried; she's so young and slight, I hope she's okay. Im not sure of the signs. I'll try get a few photos later cos she's running around like crazy right now !

If you are SURE she wasnt out, she should be safe.   Even if the males can thoretically impregnate a full months after neutering, its rare, and he being so young, was hardly high fertile.

Nay, the danger is, if she sneaks out.  It doesnt takes much, and if she is in heat, and a tom nearby, she will do her outmost to get out.  And then its done, it doesnt take long hours for an experienced tom who knows what its about.

So keep her at home, at watch her like your "stone of your eye" as the proverb says.

And try to find some low cost spay clinic nearby.

You can perhaps talk with them at the RSPCA.  You adopted two boys with the impression the neutering will be easy and cheap.

But one of them is really a girl, with more costly spaying.

Im not sure RSPCA is supposed to adopt out intact cats, they are ideally supposed to be already done.

Be a little diplomatic so it doenst become some matter of defending their honor for thme and accuse you instead.  But some friendly talk is worthy ttrying.  To get the spaying done for free, or at least, be send to their vet for a reducep price.

Good luck!

Yeah I thought so, he hadn't really been exhibiting any tomcat behaviours yet either. I Just worry!!

There's no way she can get out, and she hasn't yet so that's okay. I'm looking for local free clinics but I think they have long waiting lists :/

Here are some photos anyway, not sure if they help at all. She is also grooming a LOT recently but it could be the new clay litter we're trying.

Yeah the RSPCA weren't too professional considering we paid for early healthcare too. I think they offer discount spay and neuter at a vets two towns away but the cost of travel to get there cancels out the discount!!

Her nipples are still pretty pale but the fact that I notice them more now makes me wonder. Maybe I'm just too worried and seeing what isn't there lol

If you are unemployed and claiming benefits the PDSA will spay cats for you either free of charge or at a reduced rate, depending on your income.

(Or they did when I lived in the UK.)

Could you try giving them a call?
