Over the last year he's been doing this on and off again. His lab work has come back normal, physical exam is normal, he's a little on the thin side, and he had to have a couple teeth removed. He's 14 years old dsh. He was eating kibble, but started refusing. The only food he would eat is chicken pate from iams.... But now he's not wanting to eat that.

We've tried kibble in these brands (petsmart/petco hate me right now): merrick, purina one, pro plan, halo, chicken soup, iams, blue buffalo, natures variety, science diet, prescription z/d, and nutro.

Canned food: Avoderm, science diet, iams, blue buffalo, and prescription z/d.

He was eating about 9 oz of iams a day, now he's barely touching it. I do weigh his food before and after to get a better idea of what he's eating.

If it's a gravy, he just licks the gravy off the chunks, if it's a page, it needs the gravy or he refused to it. He's eating about 2-3 oz of the 5.5 oz canned. He eats the parts with the gravy. I tried saving leftovers for the next meal, but he refuses to eat it, even when I add a touch of water and heat it up in the microwave.

I've changed him from a bowl to a glass plate. I've now moved to feeding him in different areas that he may feel comfortable in. I've tried pureeing kibble into a gruel. I've tried pureeeing canned to make it more pate like.

Today I couldn't take it anymore and used a fork to feed him 3 oz of canned food. He wasn't thrilled, but he ate 3 oz. . . He just had to get something in his stomach beyond gravy.

I'm at my wits end. All I do is go back and forth to the store. I buy one food, exchange it for another.

Oh I've also started him back up on Pepcid to see if that helps.

I just don't know what to do anymore. Going to the store tonight to buy friskies.mi don't wantto feed him that, but if he'll eat it, I don't care. I thought about buying gravy, but all the gravies seem to contain onion.

I just don't know what to do anymore and my vet doesn't know why... His best guess is a food allergy bc he did vomit on various foods... So he wants him on Pepcid and on prescription z/d. Well he won't eat z/d or any other limited ingredients food.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried an appetite stimulant? They work within a half hour. Your vet can prescribe it

He's prescribing mirtazapine 15 mg 1/4 tab every 3 days.... So here's hoping it works. I really need something to work right.

Have you tried blending the wet food in gravy? My elderly cat is also a gravy licker, blending the food has helped quite a lot. She will also eat pate foods!

Sorry just read you've already tried the pate, as for the friskies - getting him to eat is the most important thing, so if he eats it That's fab

Well this was unexpected. My fiancé was home and Catfish puked up a hair ball the size of his middle finger. I went ahead and gave him the meds just to be safe.... And 45 mins later he ate almost 5 ounces of friskies. I'm rolling with it. Let's hope he continues.

This is how it started with my cat.  Everything normal; vet said IBD.  Had an ultrasound.  Normal  as well.  Shot of pred worked for awhile.  Could not get him to eat the good food so I gave him whatever he wanted.  Force feeding was out of question because our relationship was going down hill just from the daily meds.  Could you try force feeding him good foods?  Don't force feed with a fork.  Get a syringe & water down the food so it flows through.  Not saying your cat has IBD but eating something is better than nothing.  Sometimes my boy would go for a day or two eating 9 oz of food as well.   I would not feed your cat  anymore dry food unless this is all he will eat.  I had some luck with Catsip which is milk for cats.  This worked for me but not all the time. I started buying every canned food on the market.  Different flavors of Fancy Feast worked for some time.  Good luck, I know how frustrating this is!

Cats are different from dog and from us....

Cats are carnivorous, that is the important thing while feeding them..cats need to eat lot of protein and or a fat..

It is not uncommon for the owners to treat their cats as like the dogs.

You can ignore terms like gourmet, premium,super-premium and natural which have no standard definition. A cat that won't eat can suffer from liver failure and get fatally ill. Cats get severe obesity from too many carbs. Obesity can also lead to diabetes.
