I use World's Best Cat Litter but have had a couple of strange experiences with it and am hoping someone can offer some advice.

Years ago, I had an 18 year old cat with kidney disease and I noticed that sometimes (not always)  the litter seemed to turn a faint pink after he'd used it.  He didn't seem to be in any pain and the vet found nothing wrong.   A few weeks later my dear boy had a stroke and had to be euthanized.  When I cleaned out the box,  I noticed clear accumulations of blood.

For the next three years, I continued to use World's Best Cat Litter with my three cats with no problems.

I had to find new homes for my cats because I was too sick to care for them and was not sure I would be able to keep a roof over their heads, much less pay for vet care.  Finally things settled down health wise and financially and the first thing I did was go hunting for a new cat.   I now have a brother and sister, Paul and Chula who are only 2 years old.  The vet pronounced them healthy 2 weeks ago.  Although they were using a different kind of litter when they arrived, they made the switch to WBCL with no apparent problems.

This morning, after Chula urinated, I noticed the litter was pink.     About 30 minutes later, she went again, and again the litter turned pink.  This is just a faint pink color, it doesn't look like drops of blood or anything.   I'm not just worried about the color.  I'm also worried that she had to go so so soon and because she does not produce much at each attempt.

I can't get her to the vet until tomorrow afternoon and she does not seem to be in any pain.  I'm kind of assuming a UTI but am just curious to know if other users of World's Best Cat Litter have ever noticed this color change?

Thanks!

I've used WBCL for years with my four cats. Never saw it turn pink even when one had a uti.

I have used WBCL. The litter turning a shade of pink after use is blood in urine. :( Plus she went again after 30 minutes so I would get her to the vet. Watch her closely today. If she goes in the box straining then she needs a vet immediately. She could possibly be blocking up or extremely inflamed. Glad you noticed the color of the litter!!! Stress can bring on bladder issues. It sounds like she has been through a lot before you rescued her. Keep us posted and vibes for your kitty. :vibes: :vibes:

Thanks Feralvr,

I think you are probably right, that it is blood.  I have left her box out in the middle of the room so I can keep an eye on her but she doesn't seem to be using it much.  There is only a little pink blotch here and there.    It's actually got me wondering where Paul is peeing since his usual big lumps are absent.  I suspect the shower :(.  He likes his privacy.

d

Thanks for all the advice and especially what to look for should this become an emergency!

Glad to help, Margd, and if you don't mind; May I suggest that you add at least two more litter boxes? I am thinking you only have one? That could also be an issue for your two cats even though they are related. Even with one cat, I always recommend two boxes. Some cats like to pee in one box and poop in another. Please try to fit in a couple more boxes for your two new kitties. I am sure they will very much appreciate it.

Keep watch on Paul as well then because sometimes a cat that is having urinary health issues will pee in the sink or shower instead of the litter box. First and foremost, though, I would add a couple more boxes and see if Paul stops using the shower. Might be all there is to it for him. If he continues that way, then he may need a urine check as well.

All my best to Chula and Paul!!! :vibes::vibes::vibes:

Could there be something in your home the kitties might be getting into? Maybe eating something they shouldn't like a plant etc? Or maybe food issues? Might have nothing to do with the litter. Good luck [emoji]128008[/emoji]

Please let us know how Chula does at the vet!  That could be a very helpful tip to others who notice pink coloring in their WBCL.  That pink might be hard to detect in other types of litter.

This has been the case with my 2 siblings.  We used an electronic box for years; but when the 2nd one we purchased died after only 2 years we decided to go back to traditional boxes.  I noticed right away that one would pee in one box and walk directly to the next to poop.  The other cat doesn't care.  Both my girls have different health issues (they are seniors now) and it's nice to have the space to distinguish each one's business from the other.  Noodles cannot be taken to the vet anymore; so I try to be very observant with her health.

I probably should have purchased a second and even third box but Chula and Paul's former owner said they'd always used just the one and my room  space is limited.  I've had three cat and three boxes before and they seemed to share and share alike so given all that, I hoped all would we well.  Perhaps it is time to rethink.

Paul has used the box and the color is fine so I am pretty sure Chula is the one suffering.  My cats in the past always produced much more urine.

Should know more this afternoon!

:cross: for that vet appointment for Chula and hoping you get a definitive answer. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Yes - absolutely, please rethink the number of litter boxes. Especially now since Chula is having urinary health issues. Even if they don't use them, they know they are available and that in itself is a stress relief.

Thought adding in this link to some of our litter box articles would be helpful to you too. Throughout the article(s) you will find more links to other extremely helpful and comprehensive informative articles.

Back from the vet with an Rx for Orbax.   Poor little baby cried in such pain when they pressed out the urine, I almost cried myself.  They gave an antibiotic shot and some subcutaneous fluids.  The vet said he didn't see any crystals in her urine but he gave me some C/D prescription diet sample cans.   We'll see how Chula likes them.  She's not real crazy about the Friskies I've been feeding her.

Thank you Feralvr for caring and for the links.   Looks like I'll be ordering a new litter box tonight!

Ohhhhhhh..... :shame: POOR Chula. I feel for you and FOR YOU. How awful of an experience for both of you. I will be hoping that she recovers from her infection quickly. The canned C/D was very much enjoyed when I had to use it for a couple of my cats at one time. I hope Chula likes it. :cross: I also have lots of water bowls about my house for the cats. I change them out twice daily for them to be fresh. There are also those cat water drinking fountains that some people rave about as a way to get cats to drink more water. A good thing for Chula to drink more water right now and/or eat lots of canned food for the moisture.

And, no thanks needed, Margd, but thank you for that - we are all here for you and for your cat and any help/support we can give makes what we do here so worthwhile and rewarding. Keep us updated !!!!!!!!!!!! :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: for Chula. :rub:
