Hi everybody! So I was just wondering what is safe for a cat to eat? My kitten (about 5 months old)  will eat almost anything that will fall on the floor. Of course I keep him away from the obvious onions and garlic and things, but I find him eating lettuce and cucumber, tomatoes, general people items. He quite often will get snappy at me if I try to take 'his precious' cucumber away from him. I know that he is growing, and I feed him 3+ times a day, but I still find him on the bench, in the bin, snooping around for more food. So, what is ok for him to eat and what is not?

Just under a handful of biscuits each time, sometimes I feed him meat, but mainly biscuits.

What are biscuits?
British for kibble :D.

Hmm, he might not be getting enough. Look at the bag and see what the recommended amount is for a cat his weight, and measure his food out so you know exactly how much he's getting. And give him more canned food. Growing cats need a lot of food.

I have tried feeding him more, but he won't eat it, so I stuck to handfuls throughout the day. I think I just have a very fussy kitten-labrador-pet haha. I have tried giving him meat but he usually eats it too fast and barfs. Does it have to be canned meat? Because here we have these little meat packets, but I would assume it makes no difference.

By canned food they mean cat canned food, not human canned food. They like the gravy and moisture it provides. Also it smells good to them.

Are the packets labeled as cat food? If so, yeah, the little packets are fine. Around here they're more expensive than the cans but they are more convenient. Just make sure they're labeled as "complete and balanced" not just "for supplemental feeding only".

Yeah the little packets say 'pet consumption only', and have nutritional points/facts/stats/whatever about each flavour (I buy 20 flavour variety packs). Yes they are more convenient than cans I find, and we have 3 cats to feed and little space in the fridge.

Also, I recently found out that Turbo (the kitten) likes to eat flies.

I think I just have a weird cat.

My cat Seamus loves flies. Also bees, wasps, grasshoppers, mosquitoes, and dragonflies. If he can catch it, he'll eat it.

We have been having an awful lot of flies lately, due to it being so hot (and my flatmates leave food out ALL THE TIME and it really grinds my gears), so Turbo has been busy on Fly Patrol. But my other cat Zombie has no interest in flies, she likes the moths and the mice, which is good.

And I've just found out that Turbo has eaten (most of) a whole sandwich. A bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato thick-cut brown bread sandwich.

Thanks, he was named after Seamus Finnegan of Harry Potter fame :)

OK, this is too much people food. Maybe you should invest in some baby proofing for the trash and sit your flatmates down for a SERIOUS TALK
