HI everyone Im new here but Im trying to figure out a diet for my cats. I want to do a all wet diet but I just cant afford it. I have 5 cats. My two girls Harlow and Mina, the sisters are overweight (they are both 18 pounds) and Sippy and Salem around 9, and my one boy is 15 but hes a big boy as they can kinda be. He also is prone to the crystals. Now my one girl sprained her leg and my vet has made it clear shes overweight, which i get, so Im taking action now instead of letting it do more damage.

Originally i was feeding them different foods because the girls had sensative stomachs, and the NB alpha was the only thing that didnt bother them. I was feeding them smartblend urinary. I tried royal canin after my vet said Jack needed to be on prescription. I tried the wet and he wouldnt touch it, I would leave him in the bathroom alone, with another cat just anything to try and get him to eat. so i went with the dry and they were on that for 6 months. They did nothing but puke it more then the purina, so i went back to purina when i ran out. They seemed to not have interest in it, so i tried to Purina beyond but again they seem to just not be interested in it.

Ive read alot and one im adding at least 25% of wet food to the cats diet so it helps the girls loose weight. they have gravity bowls (which i dont leave full, i gave them 2 cups in the morning and 2 in the evening) and so figuring that ended up giving each cat 6.5 oz if they are it all. So i got rid of those, gave everyone their own bowls. I feed them in the morning, give them all wet in the evening, and then a little for overnight, but ive but the the oz to 5.5 which is what they say a is enough for an adult cat. Plus i have to watch and make sure Mina doesnt loose too much weight or she will end up with the fatty liver diease.

Sippy wont touch the wet food. Ive tried adding kibble to it, more water for gravy, he just has no interest in it. I guess my question is what sort of dry food should i be looking at. I think beyond still has like potatoes in it. I read alot about making a low carb diet (which i find amusing because I myself ended up changing to a low carb diet..so Im more aware of I dont eat this, so my cats shouldnt XD) and far as wet food to not feed them fish, and they all get a OZ a day. I tried wellness core, merrick, NB, Nutro, Hills and the RC ultra light. They really dont like anything pate so thats cutting out a few of these foods. I do add more water to their dish too when i give them wet food, and they have two fountains to drink from not in with their food.

Hope this isnt too confusing. Let me know, any suggestions are welcomed :3

I found timed feedings of all wet worked best. I used toppers like Purbites freeze dried chicken to get them going. I think all cats would prefer dry if given the choice. Like a kid with French fries or broccoli! Dry is coated with irresistible junk! Sometimes crumbling a small bit of kibble works.

Again i would feed them all wet, but Sippy wont touch it and i cant afford it, and its not like im letting them gourge on it. Im cutting down what i feed them. I heard somewhere that some cats are prone to like birds and others like beef. I tried tonight the wellness core beef and they actually were all over me before i had the can open. I think they were getting sick of chicken.

I read someone said a vet told them its better to have higher quality food and lower wet, Im going to look into the limited ingreedients NV turkey for dry, maybe see what other flavors they have, and this will help me see how long a 16 pound bag lasts me on this newer diet.

Hello  ..  Have you tried Friskies canned ? It is very affordable and decent cat food ..   For dry food look at Natures Variety Instinct Grain Free . It is fairly low carb . The chicken formula is 13.9  % dry matter ..  My cats love the Rabbit formula as well .  You can buy it on Amazon.com on subscribe  & save  . A lot cheaper than in store ..

I was talking with the guys over at pet supply plus and thats exactly what he suggested as well. I work at a pet distributor so its cheeper a little for me, and sometimes on sale but not often. Once they get done with the beyond they have, ill change to the NV GF. I have some wet food to try different flavors like venison and rabbit to see if they like any of those.

The best way for cats to lose weight is timed feeding, controlled portions and lots of playtime exercise. Bad quality dry has more carbs, but there are lots of decent dry food out there that is very budget-friendly. Don't feel like you absolutely have to feed wet if you cannot afford it. Love, attention and awareness of what your cat needs and likes are far better for her health than what brand you can get off the store.

Yeah ive been getting them new toys as well as making some, and I was playing with the laser pointer with them, and they really love it, and i get them running up and down the stairs, although trying to get them to run back down is a challenge XD I let Mina play too but more gently until her leg is back up to par. I know sprains can take a while.

Ill switch to the NV, i got a little bag of rabbit and duck to try and see what flavor they like, I know theres the chicken too. Ill add in some wet especially since the one boy has crystals, and see how that goes, maybe eventually sippy will understand the wet food is good.

I totally agree timed feedings in separate rooms is key for weight loss

Once you find foods they like, price check online to see if you can get a better deal.

Right now, Chewy.com has lowered the price if the 12.1lb bag of the LID turkey formula to $25.77. Drops to $24.48 on Autoship.

If your cats like chunky canned foods checkout NV's Pride line.

So I tried the Grain Free NV in rabbit, duck and now chicken, my cats just will not eat it. I think they dont like the brand (it throws of my shedule too because i come home and theres alot of untouched food) so im trying to see what other companies to try.

They are getting the friskies as canned food.

Yeah I did that, usually they dont seem to really care when i change food, but this time I tried the transitioning. They have been on the NV I think for 2-3 weeks

Yeah , if you want the lowest carb try  one of the other two formulas ..  If you are able to buy online , Chewy.com sells  2.2 lb bags ..

My girls are not losing weight at all, I have them eatting into separate bowls but i cannot get them to eat in different rooms. I thought about maybe adding more wet into the diet. I am feeding them the Evo right now and they get a 1/3 of a cup each because work most of the day.  Then I try to give them some wet food about 6, and i was giving them a little more dry at night to tie them over, but i could just add another can instead.

Again Sippy wont eat this, but now my roomate is going to take him in when i move later on (we think she lost her boy - he was a outdoor, and 14 and hes been missing for 3 days, and shes been looking for him - but she wants Sippy so her other boy isnt alone, and my girl isnt so stressed out) That way I could just end up changing them more to a wet diet.
