I hope everyone had a good weekend!  I need a weekend to recover from my weekend!  My step-sister was in town with her boyfriend and their kiddos.  My parents have been wanting their pictures done with the grandkids so we did that this weekend (missing the eldest grandson though).  Do you know how crazy it is to get 4 small children to all look and smile at the same time?  And stay posed?  That photographer earned her paycheck and then some!!
They got some great pictures in the end though!  The kids played; we celebrated Easter with church, dinner and egg hunts.  It was great!  But so exhausting!!  I don't envy everyone else going to work tomorrow!

How long is your commute?

I'm a stay-at-home Mom; so my commute is from the bedroom to the kitchen.
Before my DD was born it took me 12 minutes to get to work.  That was after we moved here.  It used to take me 30-35.  DH's commute is even better; it takes him 5 minutes to get to work if he takes back roads.

That was especially great when our son flooded the bathroom last Friday night.  I had just gotten off the phone with DH from him telling me he was about to leave work.  I called back like:
!!  He had been playing with the sink stopper while i was on the phone and cooking dinner.  I literally had to remove the drawers from the cabinet and dump water out!!!  It took an entire washer load of towels to dry the floor.  And a fan to dry the carpet.  I'm just thankful it didn't reach the heat duct, get into the closet or reach DH's trimmer that I use to cut his hair.  It did ruin a lot of TP and an almost full roll of paper towels.
And some magazines.  He was soaked front and back and quite proud of himself till I set him straight.
  I'm such a party-pooper; I ruined all the FUN!

:lol3::lol3::lol3: Kids! It sounds like you had a very busy Easter weekend!

After over 30 years of an hour-long commute (one way) by train and on foot, I'm enjoying my current one. It's a brisk 25-minute walk in good weather, about half of it along a river, so there are a lot of birds (ducks, herons, etc.) to watch. Numerous people walk their dogs along the same route, so I've gotten to know several friendly canines and their owners.

Wow. You had a hectic weekend!! Mine was a tad quieter. Just me, Lilith, Sophie, Henry and Bailey. Miss Bailey the border collie decided to relieve herself in Henry's room Saturday night so that was fun.

I think he was a tad offended by that but was nice enough to let it slide. He seems to like her. I think he understands that she's an old gal and these things come with the territory.

It takes me about 20 minutes to get to work on average.

I don't know how you do it, Mooch. There is no way I could be a SAHM and be able to keep my sanity. I remember when our son was little, Rick came home and found me sitting on a kitchen chair with my head in my hands. He asked me what happened and I told him to go check out our son's bedroom....cheerfully decorated in crayon and paints and markers on all the walls, as high up as he could reach. I swear I was outside for only a few minutes, hanging up a load of laundry. And his bed, too.

It is 7.5 miles from the top of my driveway to my parking spot at work. Takes me about 13 minutes or so when traffic isn't too bad. There are a ton of traffic lights (well, OK, 3 traffic lights, but it seems like more) and lots of school bus stops.

oh Canada~
Such a busy weekend for everyone! Ours was less chaotic, but lots of travel and full days with a day at the in-laws', a day at pet expo, and a lunch with my family.

20-35 minute bus to school depending on how reliable the buses want to be, or an hour and a half walk if I feel so inclined. 15 minute walk to work, or a 2 minute bus ride (often to get home rather than to get to work) when I'm lazy.

I woke up with a sick kiddo; so I guess I got my down day that I wanted! ;)

We are keeping the bathroom door shut at all times. I already had a knob cover on it to keep DS out; but he gets in when DD goes in to use the bathroom. I had hoped to get them outside; but DD is pretty wiped out. Taking the kids outside helps so much!! They are more cooperative and get along better.

I had a sick kitty :(

She's ok now but gave us a small scare.  Was throwing up bile.  We've had her over 2 years and she's been incredibly healthy so this was out of the norm.

Took her in to see the vet, x-rays to rule out obstruction (she had a LOT of gas in her but no foreign object or even hairball noticeable), fluids, etc. and $600 later we were out the door.  Came back the next morning for comparative x-ray and it was perfect.  She's fine now - maybe she ate something bad (although I can't imagine what), or just had a little tummy bug.

Also, left my cell phone at my brothers house and had to go back and get it the next day.  That sucked over 2 hours out of my life!

Oh and today, I cracked a back tooth.  Totally sheared off.  Seeing the oral surgeon tomorrow - I'm sure it will be another root canal and cap.

Oh what was the question?  Commuting times?

2 hours door to door in the morning, a little better at night only because I try and book out earlier than I should (I never take lunch, and do their banking at the end of the day).  I commute from New Jersey to New York City, plus once there have to make it all the way down to the financial district.  I have LONG days.

Awww Mooch.  There are days I miss the little ones.

That's why I help out in nursery on Sunday mornings.  I get my toddler fix for an hour, and then I leave.  Usually when the child that does not do transitions well starts screaming

I was a SAHM when the kids were little too.

Tried school for a while, didn't finish it.  It's ok

I have a temp job now that normally takes me an hour or so both ways
.  Sometimes I really don't know if it's worth a whopping $14/hour.  The little extra I bring is does come in handy.  And for the most part I like the people I'm working with.

Oh I hope she is ok! Noodles got SO sick once I thought we were going to lose her. She just looked terrible. All her tests came good. The vet thinks she ate a bug or something like that.

I cracked the back of my tooth off around the end of January. A week later I broke another molar on the other side!! It was just crazy! My mother told me no eating anything but soup from now on! :lol3: A snowstorm cancelled my first appointment and my dentist books up fast. I saw him 3 times in March!! He was able to repair my teeth with a filling. The last appointment was a regular cleaning thankfully!

I dont know how you stand the long commute! I did an hour- hour & ten minute commute for one job and I hated it! It was winter amd they had relocated the office a half hour further from where they hired me. Fortunately that office wasnt open 5 days a week!

I could see me doing that in a few years. I already miss little bits about the baby stage; but fortunately my son is still a cuddler so that helps!

She's ok, thank you!  Seems like it may have just been a passing tummy ache causing her to throw up.  All vitals were perfect, so nothing poisonous eaten and nothing obstructing her.  It's so hard to know what causes some illnesses in cats.  They systems seem incredibly delicate at times, and resilient at others!

As for my commute - it IS brutal.  I've had worse, believe it or not.  Years ago I lived further down in NJ and there was no train in that area.  I used to leave the house at something crazy like 6:00 am to be at work by 9:00 am.  I was a lot younger then, so it didn't bother me as much.  Now that I'm older and have some mobility issues, it's quite wearing on some days.  Lots of aggravation between the trains themselves and fellow riders many of whom seem to forget all manners when they use the system.  I try and tune it out by listening to calming music (lately, my fav Pandora station is traditional Sufi music) or, by taking a nap but sometimes it isn't possible.  Let alone, missing your stop LOL.  Yes, I have had that happen more than once

There is something to be said for living right where you work for sure.  But alas, the money is much better in NYC so one puts up with it.

I could see me falling asleep and missing my stop!!  The money would definitely HAVE to be good!  The job I left didn't pay enough or offer any benefits.  They did compensate me for some of the commute time; which they really didn't HAVE to do.  I appreciated that gesture; but in the end it was just not a good position for me; beyond the commute.  I was blessed to be in a position where I could leave that job without having a new one lined up; only in the works.

I was acquaintances with a girl who commuted 3 hours one way for work each day.  I suppose you get used to it a bit; but oh I would hate it!!  I believe she drove all or most of it too.  I hope the cost of the wear and tear on her car, gas and tolls was offset by her pay!  Of course this was back before gas prices skyrocketed.  The first day I came home from work after moving so close; boy I felt giddy with that extra time on my hands.

It's different working with my own vs a room full of other people's children!

I'm with you. I couldn't work with children either. I don't have the patience. I have infinite amounts for animals but not for children. My DD was (and still is) the most easygoing baby/child ever. I lucked out with her. She's 20 now and is still exactly the same.

DD wanted to go to Disney World for her bday last month so I took her. Never again. Ever. The lines were ridiculous and when we got off the ride, more often than not I was like, "we waited on line for THAT? I have been going since the late 70's. It's finally lost it's magic. We were on line for the Peter Pan ride for 90 minutes behind the 3 most obnoxious children to ever step foot on earth. They were with 3 adults. You'd think that with a 1/1 ratio that they would maintain some type of control. Nope. DD said that they were the most effective form of birth control ever invented.

Lol. She's quite right. I hate it that there's no discipline. My children are in their 40's I don't have to worry I brought them up English style. There was discipline in those days.

I understand the excitement of youth especially in a place like that but there were an astonishing amount of kids there who went so far past that and were just obnoxious and out of control. I'm 45 and have 4 siblings. There is no way in heck my parents would have put up with that kind of behavior for 5 seconds. Ever. There was one point where one of these kids in front of us turned around in front of my DD, put his hands on his hips and started screaming at her in what I believe was Portuguese for no reason whatsoever. He just decided he was going to start screaming. What the adults do?? Laughed and gave him MORE candy to distract him. One of the women with them had a huge bag of M&M's with her and the kids were continually grabbing at the bag for more. This same kid, while she was giving some to one of the others, decided to take his turn early and yanked at the bag which split and spilled all over the floor. She just sighed, put the candy in a Ziploc bag and then proceeded to give him some of them. I've seen stray dogs with better manners.

DD was so taken aback by this little brat that she was just speechless. Right after that's when she made the birth control remark to me.

That must have been so scarey. Children are liable to do anything nowadays.
When my children had a fullotdset of teeth I took them to the dentist. The dentist was waiting us so he just showed them what happens and cleaned them. When they were older we were off to the. dentist. They started to misbehave. I told them sit quietly or we won't go. They sat down very quickly. What a punishment!
They still say please, thank you and excuse me, something IsraelI children are rarely taught.
