Hello I created an account here just so I could post this because I'm getting really worried. I just got a cat yesterday from the humane society and after I got her home and really started to take a look at her I noticed that her two bottom breasts are extremely swollen. I'm not sure what it could be or what to do. She was spayed on March 27th so almost two weeks ago. Could it be swollen from her being spayed?

Talk to your vet. It could be caused from hormones. Mammary hyperplasia is fairly rare, but I have had 2 girls with it. It usually happens with the first heat, but can happen during following heats too. Vets traditionally deal with the problem by spaying. It does take time for the swelling to go down. If it is mammary hyperplasia, and the swelling increases the tissue could become necrotic. Also ask the rescue for her health records - it should have record of the rescue vets diagnosis for your vet.

Just to comfort you - my two girls are fine and neither one was spayed at the time. One was pregnant (it was NOT her first heat!) and the other was not as badly affected so we spayed her later after the swelling went down.
