Lately she was treated for fleas. All seemed well until I noticed her hair started missing. And now she has a huge scratch on her neck and smaller scabs all around her head. I'm worried because I'm financially unable to take her to the vet. She's never had a shot either. She doesn't go outside and lives with her indoor sister who's had all her shots. I'm concerned because she is like a little daughter to me. I would be devastated if she was go at only 2 yrs old. Please someone tell me some advice.

Tis the season for fleas and FAD, flea allergy dermatitis. Excoriations, wounds from scratching, and general inflammation of the skin (dermatitis) secondary to fleas is common right now in the South. Other than parasiticide to kill the fleas, often treating the FAD itself is necessary. Anti-inflammatories, specifically corticosteroids, help knock out the inflammation. Without this treatment, FAD can take many weeks to resolve on its own, and that is after all the fleas on the host and in the environment are gone.

Some excoriations become a sources of infection, and oral or injectable antibiotics are needed also.

Money may be limited, but the scratching and discomfort will persist until she receives treatment to ease the inflammation.

Hope you manage to get her the treatment she needs, and at a minimum a rabies vaccination, as it is a zoonotic disease with no treatment and any cat is good at escaping when we least expect it.

If an unvaccinated pet is bitten by an unknown rabies-status domesticated or wild animal, euthanasia is mandated by most local and state public health agencies since rabies is untreatable and infectious across various mammal species, including humans.

Sounds to me like a bad reaction to the flea treatment itself or she's still got the fleas because the stuff you have used hasn't been effective enough. Can you check her for fleas again and if she's clear then the treatment you've given her hasn't agreed with her. Sounds to me though as if she still has the little pests on her and those scabs and hair loss are the result of her constantly scratching!

Sounds like you've given her an over the counter flea treatment, and like many others, are seeing bad side effects from it. They are notorious for causing bad reactions.
