Hi there,

I would like your opinion on this. I feed my cat Merrick can food (Grammy's pot) and Acana Wild Prairies.

I recently visited a pet store that I had never been to before and was told that they don't sell Acana and Orijen because over the past five years, there have been too many recalls, so they've decided not to carry them anymore. He also said that the quality of their food has decreased and that their ingredients aren't as good as other premium quality brands.

He recommended Fromm and Taste of the Wild. He even gave me a few samples of Fromm just so that I try them out.

I only want to feed my cat high quality food (the best of the best), and I was wondering if there is any truth to his claims. I know there have been recalls for Acana, but based on the research I've done online, it's still a well praised brand. Was he is just trying to make me switch brands so that I buy the food from his store, or is Fromm better than Acana?

My cat is perfectly healthy with his current diet.

I would like to have your thoughts on this. Thanks!

I personally would not put Taste of the Wild in the same category as Orijen/Acana. I don't know a whole lot about Fromm other than that they haven't had any(?) recalls to date and some of their dry foods contain rice (unsure of other grains.) I've heard Fromm compared to Blue Buffalo, but don't know how accurate that is.

I think if your cats are doing well on their current diet, stick with it.

I personally feed Nature's Variety Instinct/Pride dry along with an assortment of canned foods and Stella & Chewy's.

This guy is a nut case. He just wants your business. He probably couldn't get a good supply deal with Acana/Orijen as he gets with other pet food companies. So he is pushing the brands that puts more money in his profit margin. Kind of what vets do pushing their pet food.

I feed Acana. Cat is happy. I'm happy.
