I have the first one and my kitties love it. They like to drink at the spot where the water comes out of the top. The only drawback is that in my household, I have to completely refill it daily, so I can't leave it running when I'm away. Sometimes food/hair clogs the pump, but if you clean it regularly, not a problem.

I have #2 but when that one needs to be replaced I will get the one from Petsmart. Reason being that me Loki loves to drink from the left rear side of the fountain and with that spout in the middle manages to get the right side of his face soaking wet.

We have the first one. If your cat likes to drink water right from the faucet, the second one might be better because it has a "waterfall", whereas the water flows down a little ramp in the first fountain.

I want to get Emmett the first one. My hairdresser said he bought it for his cats and they love it! He says they drink from it all the time, so he isn't worried about the kitties not drinking enough water.

I have the first petmate deluxe fresh flow fountain. it's the large size, and costed me a whopping $93cdn. I've seen them on Ebay now and then.. but I wanted one so bad I had to go out & buy it! The cats really love it.. but they still drink out of the toilet, and my winnie the pooh fountain! hahah! It's nice too cuz it has a hefty water supply so if you go away for a couple days, there's fresh water. Since it's always flowing, it keeps the water at a nice temperature for them too. I noticed it doesn't totally get rid of the clumps though. I've seen a piece of food in the water for a couple days and had to manually remove it.. same with some furballs.
But.. way better than a plain ole bowl, that's for sure!

As mentioned before, if your cat likes to drink out of the faucet, they will love the second one. I have the second one and my cats use it all the time...they don't even drink out of a bowl anymore. They drink right from the waterfall part.

I purchased the first type that you listed for George at the vet's recommendation to get him to drink more.

Both of my cats were curious at first and drank from it, but I wasn't overly impressed. I found it a big pain to clean (and keep clean), and difficult to find the replacement filters (Walmart stopped carrying the product).

So. . . . I'm back to using a big glass bowl and I can't keep it full!! The fountain is in my basement. . . . waiting for the next yardsale.

We have fountain #2 and the cats love it. They had no problem adjusting to it, as most of them are dripping-faucet-drinkers!

deluxe fresh flow at Petco (I had a store credit to use) for $40. I see Petsmart has the regular Fresh flow for only $20. I cannot see why the deluxe model is twice as much. In fact what IS the difference anyway?

Lily loves it and drinks from the ramp. I haven't seen Autumn use it at all, so to be on the safe side, I leave a small bowl of water out for her. I personally love it. It gives (one at least) the cats fresh, filtered water. As far as the filters being hard to find, well why not improvise? All they are is a fish aquarium filter. I would bet that any JR. size power filter cartridge should fit pretty well. I just bought them the fountain recently, so I haven't changed the filter. ONE thing I really love about this brand as opposed to the more expensive Drinkwell brand, is that PetMate Freshflow has a see-through resevoir

I bought the first - Petmate - deluxe one. We had it for a year now, and the kitties LOVE it, they run over there to drink all the time. It is extremely quiet. I wash all parts every other day, and stocked up on filters, so no prob with maintenance.

I'm thinking of buying the 2nd one too, and run it during the day only, so they can hear splashing water.

Yep.Mine love to drink from the top where the water comes out. When I am cleaning it out and get part of it put back in the floor before I plug it back in,I have one kitten that ALWAYS comes in there and tries to get her drink from there and there is nothing coming out and she looks at me like "I wish you would hurry and get this thing filled up and plugged back in."LOL.Even if I have it part of the way filled up and there is water in the bottom, she won't touch it.She will wait until I get it fixed. When she hears it start up again she will come flying back into the bathroom.LOL.She is sooooo spoiled.

I can't leave mine running if I am going to be gone for a long time either.I'm okay if I fill it up before I leave for school. It usually needs filling back up though a couple of hours after I get home,so I couldn't leave early one morning and not come back until late at night and leave it on.

I'm glad you asked! I've been trying to decide which one to get too. I like the waterfall on the second one, but I like the way the first one looks.

Since looks don't matter to Cupid, I think I'll probably go for the second one. It sounds like they both work pretty well.
