Cat throwing up, should I be worried?

Recently, my Cat has been throwing up more than usual. She usually coughs up hairballs like any normal cat, but a week or so ago she threw up and the next day randomly pooped on the floor. Today she just threw up again. I was wondering if I should be worried, she's two years old, had some shots on the 17th of March, and they said she was in good health.

I was thinking of two possibilities.

1. My cat LOVES butter and will lick it if we don't completely hide it from her. She'll even try and get into the garbage if we just recently threw an empty butter wrapper away. Now, she has been able to get a few licks every now and then due to butter on a plate or whatever, but could this be why she's throwing up? She rarely licks any because we have a garbage lid so I'm not sure if it's enough butter for her to actually cause a problem.

2. She doesn't like her food anymore. Is it possible for a cat's body to reject the same food after a long time? We used to get her two types by the same brand but the grocery store stopped selling them after a year, we changed to another kind from a local nature food store, but they sold out too last spring or summer (Around that time) we changed to ANOTHER brand and have used it ever since. They were all wet food btw.

Should I change her food, or at least add another type or something? She can be a picky eater (She eats most of it, but will leave some in the bowl and won't eat it unless she has to)

Thanks for any information, I'm pretty sure I don't have to visit the vet but if someone thinks it's a good idea please tell me right away :)

Your cat is trying to tell you something.  A trip to the vet is in order just to rule out anything medical.  It is very possible that the manufacturer has changed the formulation of the food and it no longer is appealing to your kitty.

Okay, so it isn't anything serious, she just might not like her food anymore?

You won't really know for sure unless you take your cat to the vet. It could very well just be a reaction to the food (especially if you changed it several times), or she could have ingested something that was toxic. You should probably have her checked out if it continues, just in case.

Does she cough up hairballs often? My cat had chronic vomiting--both hairballs and food--and it turned out to be Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Your cat might be too young for that though.

What kind of food do you give her? Does it have corn in it?

If vomiting persists, aka, she vomits regularly and repeatedly, or if she regurgitates, producing undigested food or water soon after eating/drinking. Regurgitating can be hours after swallowing either food or water, distinguished from vomiting as it's without the retching heaves/gags leading to a vomitus or hairball that is usually seen in regular vomiting.

Vomiting a week apart is unlikely a digestive problem, such as gastritis, pancreatitis, GI obstruction, or sensitivity.

Reduced appetite for her current canned diet is only considered abnormal if she is losing body condition. If her body condition/weight are static, unchanged, she may just not need to eat as much as her metabolic rate is reduced with maturity. If she has less body condition, then finding the cause for reduced appetite and weight is needed, by her doctor.

During your exam w/ vaccines 2-3 weeks ago, her doctor would've rated her body condition as part of her exam. If she was deemed in healthy condition, no concern currently for a reduced appetite. If she only had vaccines without an exam, returning for a complete physical examination would behoove her health. It'd provide with information to best care for her, including her dental health, heart/lung health, skin, and palpating her abdomen for any obvious abnormalities to a doctor's hands, as well as range of motion of her joints.

At best, she is feeling sated (full) on less food now. Hopefully, it's as simple as that.

I would definitely take her to the vet. Especially if she's pooping out of her litterbox. Even calling the vet to tell them your kitty's symptoms might help you out.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll probably call the vet as soon as I can. Hopefully it's only something minor.
