Hi guys, I feed my cats out of a joined bowl and the youngest wont eat her food unless she has flicked water all over it first. If I feed them in separate bowls then she wont eat, I don't know why she would want her food wet when she won't eat the wet food I give her. At first I thought she was just playing with the water then I noticed that she will angle her self to flick the water onto the food and nowhere else, I don't know what to do any more, she is getting water on the floor as she does it.

Also she has become very picky about what she eats. She will pick up her food in her claw, eat half of it and then leave the rest all over the house, I'm getting really worried now, please help!!

I have two cats who prefer their dry food wetted with water.  I think it is because it makes it softer and thus more appealing.  It's not that they want wet food, which they get twice a day, but that they like the taste of the dry food but want it wet.

Since yours is a kitten also, she may be teething and may prefer it softer.  Also, since she carries it all over the house, she is perhaps exhibiting PREY catching behavior too.  Remember, she's a baby and just learning what it is to be a cat.  As for the water on the floor, just keep a towel under the bowl.  That's what I do, and also under my water bowls because a couple of them like to drink with their paws, scoop up the water and lick it off their paws.  Another one splashes in the water bowl like a wild animal would do to clear debris off pond water before drinking.  It's all wild cat behavior.  She may outgrow it, or she may not.  You can't change her, so you have to change your own behavior to make her behaviors in tune with your human needs and wants.  She sounds like a gem.

I got one of those plastic trays you put wet/muddy boots/shoes on to go under my cat food bowl, works well to isolate the mess to one area. The spilling part of the mess, anyway, it wouldn't help with dragging food around the house. No towel to worry about getting moldy either.

What happens if you put dry food on top of wet food?
