I am mid-switch with the new dry food the cat is trying. I am switching her from Purina One SmartBlend Salmon and Tuna to I and Love and You Surf N Chick Kibble. This is not the best food but it is grain free, a decent price, and semi fishy tasting. My cat is very picky with dry food but it is the only way for her to get food at certain parts of her day and I don't want to (or have the funds to) do all wet. I do give her poultry flavored wet food about every other day and she will eat it! She seemed to eat the 3/4th old 1/4th new mix no problem but we are now on day two of half and half and she just isn't eating all of the new mix. It seems she is eating some of it but I just wanted to see if I should just continue with the switch and try getting her to eat it?

How long did you feed the 3/4 old  1/4 new ?  It is possible you did not go with that long enough . I would suggest going back to that for awhile longer . After  don't go straight to half & half  , just very slowly increase the new .. . My cats are super picky so I have to be very careful about changing foods ..

I went for 3 days and she seemed to eat it but she doesn't eat all of her food anyways. I can go back. I guess its kind of weird because she only gets half a cup of food total in a day so the fact that she needs to go even slower than a 4th a cup difference is interesting. I will try that and see if she will eat it this time :) Thanks.

You are welcome .  It could also be that she does not like the new food maybe .  You never know with cats.

Yeah, thats what I am afraid of because the bag was kinda not the cheapest and its really hard to find grain free dry that is the right size and fish flavored. She won't eat any other flavor dry.

I know what you mean , My cats are extremely picky about size and shape of kibble .. Can you return the unused portion of the new food to the store . Most stores have a money back guarantee .. I know you are going for grain free but have you thought about Purina Pro Plan ? Since you are already feeding Purina One it would be a step up as it has a bit less grain and similar in size and shape . ..

My cats are eating the Pro Plan Savor Salmon & Rice and they love it .. Just a suggestion ..

I don't mind the grain I am just worried about using Purina in general I think because of my vets bad experiences with kitties on purina. I also kinda don't like how high in calories they are because she is fairly inactive.  The One Smartblend isn't horrible but I haven't looked at the Pro Plan. What's the main differences? (its all so confusing)

I can ask Kroger if they would do a return on an open bag but I am not sure. I really do wish I could get her to eat it though.

Though I will say that she automaticly threw up the Pro Plan wet food we tried.

Decided to take back the I and Love and You to Kroger- they put the money on a gift card which is fine because I shop there a LOT. I went to Petco and looked through a lot of their natural foods and the foods people recommend here like Wellness Core and Natural Balance Ultra and decided on trying Nature's Recipie as it seems to have the right size kibble and while it is more expensive it is grain free and has a Salmon flavor. That combo of things is so hard to find lol. If she won't eat this one I will try Nutro and then probably go to Pro Plan. Who knows what she will take to but I am hopeful for this stuff!

The main difference between Purina One & Purina Pro Plan is less grain in the Pro Plan .  My cats do very well on it and they really like it ..  I hope your cat likes the new food .  Natures Recipe is a good brand ..

I do too but at least now I can try out foods without hesitating to take them back :) I would be more willing to try pro plan if he hasn't been so sick on the wet and their bags were available in a smaller size but if this doesn't work I might have to give that one a try! Thanks again

Hey , that is ok.   All cats are different , what works for one may not work for another ..  You do what is best for yours .  Good luck , I hope you can find a food he likes ..

Just an update: Hazel has successfully switched to Nature's Recipe Salmon and Potato! It is grain free and a taste she likes. It is also just as expensive as the I and Love and You :)
