Hello. If I'm doing this wrong, please tell me. I'm new here. Also, please forgive me as my English isn't good. :)

My 3-year old cat started to expressed pain in peeing last Saturday (3/28) but then we ignored it since he's still doing fine and active. The following day, my mother told me that he is sick, we asked our vet for help but he said that he will check him the next day. He didn't have clinic on Sunday. By this time, I felt a big lump in his stomach. I told this to my mother and we looked for an open clinic but found none. We decided to wait for Monday.

Monday, our vet told us to go to the nearest clinic and we did. The vet (another one) said that his case is enlargement of bladder and needs catheter to remove the liquids. She gave us liverolin, antibacterial, rowatinex, RC recovery food, and Inner aid, for him to drink with water. We were also asked to buy Feline C/D but the thing is, we couldn't find one (I'm from the Philippines and living in province)! Our attending vet doesn't have one in hand so we were asked to look for other pet shops. We tried but we didn't found one. We asked help from my grandmother living in the US to find one which they did but they didn't have the doctor's receipt and ended up buying nothing. They did buy the prevention ones but I don't know if it will work. I took one of it and allowed my cat to sniff it but he walked backwards, so I assumed that he's appetite isn't returning. I decided not to find C/D first and stick with RC.

On Wednesday, he's showing big improvement. He also started to do bowel movement. I was really happy. But, he then started to drink the water without medication (for dehydration) but my father said that its okay since he's still drinking. But last night (Thursday 4/3), he started squatting again, like he wanted to pee. I checked his catheter if there's was some blockage from soil (he went outside to bowel) but nothing. I decided to syringe him with the recommended water but he didn't like it. I went to the dropper and it worked. I checked again but he's still doing it. I checked again Friday early morning (2AM) and I think his pee is only by drops, not like last days. I gave him water again. Today, (4/3 7AM) he's still doing the same, the catheter too.

We have holidays (Maundy Thursday & Good Friday) so the clinic isn't open. Our next appointment will be tomorrow. I couldn't contact the vet to ask her things. I don't know what to do. I also told this to my mom, if ever the worst is to come. Is this situation normal? Is this because of the water without medicine? Is this because he went outside and did bowel on the soil? Is it because we didn't buy the C/D and stick to RC?

Or maybe, it was too late that I need to prepare myself for the worst?

Please help me and my cat. Thank you so much.

Hi

The food C/D is a long term solution but would have no immediate effect.  However if the cat is only getting a few drops of urine out at a time, he is back into a blockage situation and it is somewhere between urgent and an emergency in terms of needing treatment.  You need a vet as soon as possible.  Do not force any food or liquids into him at this time, nothing to put more water into the bladder.  This may sound odd, but if i knew where my vet lived, i would go to his home for emergency help.

Hi Stephen,

Yes, I believe that he is back with a blockage. I don't if what I felt is his blockage or not, but it seems it is. If I only read this earlier, I'll go with your advise of not putting anything in his stomach but I already fed him. We'll go to our vet as soon as the clinic hours. So far, I have minimal confidence that he will survive. I even thought he couldn't on the last few days.

@Ryana

What you're likely feeling is his bladder.  If you don't have a first of the day appointment in the AM, then bring hi in as an "emergency".  If you have a 24/7 emergency clinic go there now. If you can find a vet technician or vet off hours (call friends, post on social media, contact rescue groups - i'm grasping at straws for you) see if they will do emergency assistance.  Good luck.

This video may give you life saving emergency instructions on expressing your cat's bladder.  I can't tell you to do this but if you feel you can and it is necessary to save your cat's life then proceed:

Hello guys,

My cat now is in the clinic, confined. The vet give him IV drips because he is so dehydrated. He is also schedule for blood test to find out what's wrong. The vet told me that maybe, hopefully not, there is a kidney problem. Chances are 50-50 for him. We'll find the blood results this midnight or early morning.

It's unclear why your cat would be so dehydrated.  But please give us an update when you can.  Sending vibes.

I'm sorry for not giving updates because I can't give anymore... He died last Saturday night, exactly 6:27PM. The vet told us, around 2PM that he's breathing isn't good so they gave him oxygen and also, his urine had blood on it. Around 5PM, there's no improvement and after an hour, we got the news that he passed away.

I didn't asked what was the real cause about it. The first diagnosed was UTI so the immediate relief to that is catheter. He should be fine, as the vet says. But as I told, he started squatting as if he couldn't pee. When I went to the clinic, our vet told me that his kidneys maybe already affected. She said if its the cause, its already terminal. I still decided to hospitalized him. But then, he didn't survived. I think our vet didn't go for blood test because when she was about to get blood samples, the blood she got was so gooey.

I'm still grieving on his death. I'm really sad about what happened to my cat. He's really special to me. He's so attached to me. I know he's already up there and I'm sure, he's in peace and maybe, he's watching over us too.

What we can do now is to do prevention: We change our cats' daily meals, switching to canned/cooked foods and not giving entirely dry foods. I checked if they're drinking clean water and their urine/feces too. I also checked their stomachs for any lumps (this is what our vet taught me) everyday and if there's one, bring him/her to the clinic immediately. And for the betterment of all of our cats, I told my mom to switch vets because relying on our old vet wasn't the best thing. I felt that the new vet is more reliable than him.

Thank you for helping me an my cat.

RIP Polly. I love you so much. I seriously will be missing you.

I am so very sorry, deeply sorry for your loss.  I can't say that I have ever heard of a cat who went so quickly to a combination of acute illnesses, but your cat is the rare exception.  You did everything  possible but sometimes like in this case, the illnesses get ahead of us and we can't stop it from progressing.  Having lost one of my cats recently I can only say that grief is necessary, complicated and unpredictable and the most important thing is not to blame yourself for what has happened.

When you are ready you may with to write about your cat and include a picture on the rainbow bridge forum.

All of us here share in your grief.

My heart goes out to you, I know the pain and the 'emptiness' is almost more then we can bear at times. You had no way of knowing what was going to happen, you did what you could. I like your 'preventions', we should ALL take heed here and follow them, thank you. Please accept my condolences, and know we are here to help in any way we can, we do understand what it is like to lose such a wonderful family member, and what a hole it leaves in our heart. Your sweet Polly will live on through your memories, and will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. RIP beautiful Polly, you were greatly loved and will never be forgotten!

We have a large black male named Curly who has the bladder issues.  He became blocked; seriously blocked a couple times and he had to have the expensive surgery.  Now he has to eat the special food and we buy it from our vet, he keeps it in stock for us.  Some cats just have this problem for whatever reason.

I am very sorry for your loss, I don't know what I would do without my big old Curly, he is a pain in the behind but a total sweetheart.
