Good day everyone... My ragdoll Lucy has been with me since she was seven weeks and she is now 18 months old, this might seem stupid as I know many people don't understand what pets really mean, but I do love Lucy very much, i always make sure she's happy and well, if i wake up in the middle of the night to drink water or go to the toilet the first thing i do is check on Lucy.. Lucy started getting sick when she was six months, her vet said it was normal for a cat to vomit once every 40-50 days, the vomitting got more frequent as she grew older, it was the worst 5 months ago, Lucy refused to eat and vomitted for two days, the vet checked her during those two days and gave her injections and tablets, she didn't get any better, i had to take her to A and E, she spent two nights there on fluids, the vet first thought she had some serious Liver disaese but Thank God the results were good, the ultrasound however revealed some thickening in her stomach wall, the vet said it is most likely IBD, and suggested we try hills science d/d food before we proceed with the surgery, I was very happy when Lucy recovered and she has been on hills D/d since.. She has been doing well on it but it only contains 4% venison and I know cats are supposed to eat meat not just carbs and very little amount of meat by-products, so i made many searches online and read many great articles about raw feeding and successful stories, i discussed this with me vet but she clearly told me that she doesn't have any experince with raw and she couldnt feel comfortable about it, I didn't want to go against my vet's advice because if something bad -god forbid- happens to Lucy I would blame myself deeply.. But I bought some venison meat and fed her three days ago, surprisingly she ate it and enjoyed it, that night i hardly slept, i expected her to vomit, but Thank God nothing bad happened, so for three days I gave venison to my precious baby, one meal a day and the rest is D/d dry food, I am very worried and confused, ai do want my little angel to be healthy and happy and I want her to eat well, but at the same time my vet knows better and I cant risk her health, so please could anyone here with previous experince with cats with ibd advise me and lead me as I feel so lost.. Lucy means so much to me, the thought of losing her makes me cry.. She got bored with hills food, she used to eat more than she did three days ago, it felt as if she had lost interest in it, she gave me that look and it made me so sad, I am aware that I should not let her trick me or play the boss, like I said before her health comes first and is above everything... Thank you very much in advance.

Does she go outside? Has she been wormed? My cat vomited a lot and I switched to grain free canned only no dry and the vomiting stopped, I rotate so no boredom sets in.

Hey-I was clearing my favorites bar and found this site called " www natural cat care blog"  the blog had listed and rated all kinds of food, raw, canned, etc. then I noticed on one of the side bars an article on IBS kitties You might find some good information there. Sorry I don't know how to list the link in my response to link to.

Is she eating dry food?  If so I would switch to cans & get those with limited ingredients  She is so young to IBD but that is what it sounds like.

Did you feed her raw venison? Although many owners have had success with raw diets and IBD, you should not feed raw and dry food. The dry food will slow down digestion and make bacterial growth more likely.

Although it seems you trust your vet, you also seem willing to try raw. I would not let your vet hold you back if you think better health is possible. In general holistic or integrative vets will support raw feeding and have more knowledge of pet nutrition. This forum also has a special subforum on raw feeding.

. Hello, it's not confirmed because she did well on d/d dry food so the vet said we didn't need to proceed with biopsy as it's very invasive and she's too young, i feed her d/d dry and wet, i trick and beg her to eat the wet version, snd recently she lost interest in the dry, she still eats some everyday but much less than she used to

hello, thank you very much, yes i fed her raw venison five times so far and she ate it, i just started recently so I can't stop the dry food yet as i am still worried and not sure about the raw diet, besides i give her only one meal of the raw venison. She did well on d/d but poor animals can't complain and everytime i feed it to her i feel so guilty, yet grateful, it is garbage, only 4% venison and tons of peas, but it did save her.. As for the vet she seems to be against any form of raw diet, she always recommends royal canin and hills science

i'm not clear on the whole history but have you tried this?
thank you, i should have said that she's neutered, we did the operation when she was five months, I agreed only because two vets told me that shed be healthier, they said such procedure will keep her from developing ovarian cysts, cancers. She's regularly wormed and we visit the vet every three months when she's not ill

A  change in diet may help your cat's IBD, however keep in mind that eating any thing is better than not eating.  I totally agree with the vet on spay.  Female cats in heat can be very unpleasant & we don't need more kittens in the world.  Lastly, I wish I would have had better information from the first vet I saw on IBD.  He was a large animal vet turned small animal & knew nothing about cats.  Sometimes a second opinion is the best option.

Thank you very much for your comment and please don't apologize , the thought itself counts.. Sadly the two other vets at the same center also don't support any form of raw feeding, they keep recommending royal and hill's science.. I will try to find nearby vets for consultation. Thank you again
