We knew it all along. And no, it is not April foolin'

Cats are amenable to classical music.

A study in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery found that cats hate heavy metal, are indifferent to pop but are fond of classical music.

Twelve cats under anaesthetic and wearing headphones were exposed to the three genres of music for two minutes at a time. Those listening to classical appeared calmer — breathing more slowly and with smaller pupils. Miguel Carreira from the University of Lisbon said that cats are especially partial to the music of George Handel.

I was told by the foster mother and by the original owner's daughter that Artie likes classical music.
I tried it, and he does!! He seemed calmer and even happier when I first started playing the classical music station on the radio.

I usually listen to country music, Artie never minded that...I like classical also.

At our shelter, we put classical radio in the communal rooms during less busy time, and we have classical music in the kitten nursing area too. They do calm their nerves.

This is cool! I know Mici really likes Enya (example: A Day Without Rain), whenever I would put on a CD she would move to that room and curl up to sleep by the radio. Soon I got the message and play Enya by the cat tree or whatever her favourite sleeping place at the time is.
