Okay, so one of my recent posts here was about trying to find an alternative to the Hill's Prescription c/d, as it makes my cat stinky beyond words.

It seems like the biggest answer for urinary problems is wet food, wet food, and more wet food. While I don't know if the prescription canned would make him stinky, I can say that at close to $300 a month for just him to eat prescription canned food would be waaayyyyy out of my budget. (He's a 15 pound cat, and would have a bigger food budget than I have for myself in a month if I did that!)

So, I recently spotted that Friskies has a canned Special Diet for Urinary problems. Truthfully, the ingredients seem a better than the Hills, and reading around places it seems like a lot of people are pleased with it.

 So, Questions:

A lot of articles about urinary problems say to avoid fish, but some of the line is fish flavored. Should I avoid those ones?

Can all of my cats eat this? I would love to finally have all of my cats eating one food, so I don't have to guard one or try to feed them separately without the others trying to get what the others have.

Is this okay to feed a 9 month old kitten? A vet told me a while back that Friskies was good for all age groups. Would this also be true of the special diet? I actually worry about him, as he hates drinking water and is obviously going to be a large male, so he already has three strikes against him. I certainly don't want a second cat with urinary issues.

I actually have started to add it into their diet to see how they like it, and am very happy with improvements to Zephyr's smell already. Plus, he's always had very soft stool, but the extra moisture has actually made him solid for the first time in his 10 year life!

I'm really hopeful that this will be what he needs to keep him from issues. Plus, I could afford to feed all 4 of my cats on this, which might be one of the few canned cat foods out there that I could do that with.

You could feed the 9-month-old a different Friskies flavor/formula---if you have to open more than one can anyway it doesn't matter which flavor it is ;).

I agree with this. And I've never had a smell problem with Friskies but I have had one with other foods.

I am very sorry for you and your little angel, 9 months is too young and I feel you because my Lucy has ibd and shes barely 18 months, I am not sure if cats with urinary problems can eat this but my ibd cat does and she doesn't smell at all, hills science d/d dry and wet food, the wet food is pate so i usually sit beside her when i open a can, i make small tiny balls of it to make her eat it, cats prefer crunchy food to soft.. You may also wanna try zooplus, there are many options and you might find something for your baby. Good luck

Thanks everyone. I didn't notice before the can saying it was for adult cats! I'll try to match the flavors I give to him with the one  everyone else will eat so he keeps his nose in his own dish, then!

LucyNorah- Sorry to here about your little one! My 9 month old doesn't actually have any issues yet, but I am concerned that they may develop if I don't get a head of things. The cat who does have issues is 10, but developed the issues around 2 years old. I wish the vet back then had told me that wet food was ideal. Thankfully all 4 of my cats seem to prefer the wet so far.

Now it's on to figuring out which ones they like best. But that shouldn't take long as Special Diet line doesn't have as much to offer!
