4 inches of snow yesterday. Oh, I know, it's only four inches. But for crying out loud, it needs to stop. I made it home from work with no trouble as the roads were basically just wet; PennDOT had gone through and treated everything. But man, I no sooner got home from work last night than it just let loose. We had white-out conditions for a while....we couldn't even see across the road. The biggest snowflakes I think I've ever seen. It's a really heavy, wet snow and it froze. Needless to say, cleaning vehicles wasn't pretty this morning and there's black ice everywhere. Parts of I-80 were shut down because of accidents last night. I-80 is our major east-west thoroughfare and people were saying it was just ugly. And the whole time, The Weather Channel just kept saying that we were getting light rain.....liars! All of them! Some areas just west of us got as much as seven inches!
We're not shoveling the driveway. We give up. Today, we are to be in the mid-40s, so most of it should melt.

Our local weatherweenie has warned that, although they are calling for rain on Saturday, there's a "good chance" that it could turn over to snow. We're a good 15-20 degrees below normal at this point. We might get a day or two in the 50s, but for the most part, we're hanging in the 40s and upper 30s during the day with teens and 20s at night. Way too cold for this time of year.

I got two emails yesterday from people who told me they're moving to Belize with me (whether I want them to or not!).
Looks like I'll have company when I do go. My brother and SIL told me a couple weeks ago, they're moving, too, and we'll all share a house...and I do believe they're serious. I told Mollipop last night that she's going to be a "Belizian" kitty and even she meowed OK.

Come on, SHARE A LITTLE BIT!!!!   We've just gone through one of the driest winters on record, only one snow all winter, and it was only 4 inches. If we don't get some rain pretty soon we'll be reclassified as desert. I guess it only shows that it goes both ways, some get it all, and we get nothing!

My ex-husband's family is from Youngstown OH and they told me about Easters where there was two to three feet of snow piled up at their doors.  We missed this one, the last snow we got was Monday of last week.  It melted back off the next day but I was cleaning snow and scraping ice off the windshield of the car the next morning.

Here's the downside of all that beautiful sunshine I was bragging about a month ago!!

I have seen some stories recently about the water situation in the west.  Of course that effects all of us especially in the fall through spring because of all the produce that comes from California.  I have even seen where some places in Nebraska have already reached 90 F this year.

We didn't have as harsh of a winter as the one last year.  We really didn't get a lot of snow until the middle of February on into early March.  It just hasn't wanted to let go.

I hope you can get some slow, steady rain in the next months.
I did not realize you had such a terrible dry spell.

PS It was us that got to 90 degrees already in March, 87 degrees yesterday. Much better today, only near 70. Thank you so much, raysmyheart, we need all the help we can!

Doing a raindance for you all!

We have a small chance of rain here over the weekend, hoping we get a few drops of that system.

Stay warm, @Winchester  !

I grew up on a farm in Kansas and I remember both extremes the drought years and the years with flooding.  This drought has drug on for multiple years  I know last year they were warning of higher meat prices because of high grain prices  due to the drought.  It's only going to get worse as this continues.  As much as I hate winters with a lot of snow all that snow certainly does help with water supplies.

Di, you can have it! Honest! This is what we awakened to on April Fools' Day...about 4-1/2 inches or so. Rick took these pictures from our kitchen window, so it's the back yard at the pool area.

Thankfully it's all gone again. Yesterday we hit the 60s!

What a long cold winter. I am thankful to live in the south, where we do sometimes get snow, but it is few and far between. Usually it melts quickly. :lol3:

I am glad for Southern living too. Snow is beautiful on TV and in pictures but I don't care to be out in it or cold weather.

It is a 4-foot tall picket fence that Rick and I made from boards to surround the pool. PA law says that pools have to be surrounded by a minimum of a 4-foot fence. I remember we had all this lumber in the back yard and it seemed to take forever to get all the pickets sawed-out. When it came time to put the posts in the ground, we rented a post-hole digger, grabbed a few cases of beer and a ton of pizza and our friends came down to help get the fence up. We had a ball.

We keep talking about replacing it with a new vinyl fence, but we keep cleaning it. It's almost 30 years old now. Thanks, Judy.
