Had to make one of the most difficult decisions in a long time tonight. Our little furry man Ralphie ended up having a few tumors that likely were cancerous (we had scheduled removal this thursday), he lost a lot of weight, and you could tell he was not feeling well. We rushed him to the vets where they tried to give him another x-ray and he had fluid in his lungs and chest area. The only way to know for sure was to sedate him for a thorough x-ray, but we were told he may not  make it through due to the shallow breathing.

We could tell he was in pain and that the vet said he might only make it another few months so we wanted to spare him from the pain and let him finally rest peacefully. He was a little pain in the butt but he was my little pain in the butt, and I will truly miss him greeting me at the door everyday when I get home. I am grateful to have had him in my life. He was my little sidekick that followed me everywhere, he sat near me the night before which was not normally something he did, and I had no idea the next day we would be putting him to rest. He was only 7 1/2.  I think the thing I will miss the most is he was such a talker. He would meow your ear off, and he would actually carry on a conversation with me............He was actually the main reason I enjoyed coming home from work, because he would pop his head through the cat door and greet me............

I'll miss you little guy.

:hugs: I'm so sorry for your loss. I'd have made the same decision in the circumstances you describe. He was a stunning boy, and sounds like a real character. Rest in peace Ralphie :rbheart:

What a handsome boy.  I'm so sorry.  I know you made the right decision, but it doesn't make it any easier to let them go.  You're in my thoughts.

In releasing Ralphie from his pain, you were causing yours - In other words, you showed true courage and love!! He was such a gorgeous boy and quite the little ham for the camera - so much personality showing in those eyes!!! I am sending healing prayers and vibes for you and your family tonight.  Godspeed over RB  Ralphie and greet my Little Gracie for me

So sorry, I know how you feel. I lost my fur baby a week ago, I needed to take a day off and cry. I am glad I did. They are family. Remember the happy times!

My heart goes out to you, I know how lonely and empty those first few weeks are. Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control, and there is nothing we can do to stop the inevitable pain and suffering that is to come. You took that pain on as your own broken heart so your sweet Ralphie could be in peace, you will surely be blessed for your courage. Listen for Ralphie to be talking to you on the breeze, he will occupy that special place in your heart and surround you with his love and comfort. You have your precious memories to comfort you when the sadness comes, know we all share your pain. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, take care....... RIP sweet Ralphie!

What an adorable little rascal. I know you'll miss his big personality and his chatter. It's a very hard decision; i had Mr. Grimsby euthanized on March 20th. Although it breaks out hearts, it is so much better that we don't make them suffer because of our selfishness. You did a good thing for Ralphie and he thanks you for it.

Rest in peace, Ralphie. And say hello to Mr. Grimsby for me.

Best regards,

Phyllis

I truly appreciate everyone's heartfelt condolences and my thoughts are also with those whom have lost their pets recently as well. We are slowly accepting it, and things are slow moving, but eventually things will get better. It may never be the same again but my wife and I know that he will always be with us in spirit, and I am thankful for the time that we got with him. I also wanted to share a pic of him in my wife's wishing well, because it always brings a smile to me when I see it. He will be thoroughly missed....

What a terrific photo! Ralphie must have given you hours of joy.

I have Mr. Grimsby's photo as my avatar on this site, and it's my screensaver, and I have it framed on my bedside table because that's where I always expect to see him. It gives me great pleasure to "rub his face" and say hello to my pretty boy.

We'll get through this; it will just take time.

Best regards.

Thanks for the baby pictures!  Sad that cancer takes our loved ones away so soon.  I know the empty feeling of coming home & not finding him there to greet you.  Many times I still say "let's go to bed, Rizzo".  It is good that you didn't let him go through any more pain.  Rest assured  he is off playing in the grass with friends & thinking what a great life he had with you.. As you probably know cats don't vocally talk to one another so he was probably wanting to make his demands clear.   I am sorry for your loss.  RIP Ralphie.

I'm so sorry. I broke down when I saw his pictures. He looks a lot like mine with the whiteness of his body. The pink pads and nose, and the white nose that goes into orange on his head.

Sorry for you. That's tough. They're out babies and companions.

What a sweet face he had! I'm very sorry for your loss of Ralphie and can imagine how quiet it is without his conversations. RIP, sweetie. :rbheart:
